B$P pushes out their seasons so quick but it's still not as fast as I'd like. That show is excellent! Season 3 should be out in April!

Wow. That's super fast. I loved S1, but haven't gotten around to S2 yet. Need to jump on that before 3 drops.

Gaffigan's new special wasn't bad but was kinda underwhelming.

It's fantastic. I was a little hesitant because the morning show sketch sometimes seems exhausted and I didn't want to see Lauren as a morning show host with out PFT but it's so funny. Those two are perfect at playing the obnoxiously-pretend happy. It's got a cool story arch that makes each episode fresh.

The premise was a little on the nose but it is a fun watch. Love the anger episode.

I just cannot get into Jim Gaffigan. I've tried watching a few of his specials and from what I remember he literally only talked about food for most of an hour long special, and that thing he does where he does that whisper voice to represent the audience is more annoying than funny to me. He seems like a really cool guy and I like him as an actor but I just find him overrated as a comedian

I think he's hilarious and from what I remember he kinda started that meta voice thing.

  16. I saw him live (won tickets) and he was funnier in person, but yeah, the high-voice thing is awful and he's a little too "clean dad comic" for me.

What I like is that he doesn't seem like he'd be clean but he surprisingly is.

Gaffigan's one of my faves, his premises are simple but he's so good with them, also nice to have at least one comedian I'm into seem happy haha

The "clean comic" moniker is always (and, by and large, rightly) considered a subject of derision...for everyone who tries it aside from Gaffigan. You almost don't even really notice that he's a "clean" comic as you watch his act. His and Jeannie's material truly doesn't need to venture outside of what one would dub "clean." They write a lot of really funny, really clever observational humor (much of it food-related, yes, but hey, "write what you know" and all that). His bit on seafood in Obsessed is some of the funniest stuff I've heard in the last couple years (and he revisits seafood briefly in Cinco as well, albeit not as successfully). I also don't mind the "speaking as the audience" thing (although if you dislike that particular tool of his, he actually uses it very sparingly in his new special). I typically love his work as a comedian and am pretty comfortable saying he's one of my favorite standups currently working.

That said, I did find Cinco to be perhaps my least favorite of his specials, especially coming off of how incredible Obsessed was. It was still very good, but that's about as high of praise as I can give it right now. I'm definitely going to revisit it in a month or two and see how it holds up, but as of now I merely enjoyed it. Still, like I said, I love his work in general.

Gaffigan has been one of my favorite comedians for the past 15 years. I was fortunate in 2006 to interview him before one of his shows in Toledo. Super, super genuine and nice guy. When he first started, he wasn't really that clean. Doin My Time and some of his earlier work, he cursed and it didn't make him any more (or less) funny or anything. To be a 'clean' comedian, you really have to be a really good writer to actually come up with funny content or situations rather than swearing to use shock value or get a laugh.

All that said, I think his specials have been declining in humor (admittedly, I have not watched Cinco but am excited to do so) over the years and I thought his show on TV Land was not funny whatsoever but I watched every episode (it was still enjoyable despite not much humor). I still find him entertaining and if he were playing live near me I'd purchase tickets in a heartbeat. I will watch Cinco in the next few days or so.

John Mulaney's been touring here and there since Comeback Kid, right? Hoping for a more regular output from him now that his schedule seems a bit lighter. If we're talking clean comedians, Mulaney rides that line better than anyone I've seen.
