Hannibal had some good stuff and a few recycled bits like Riff Raff reciting the end of his lines. Still cool to hear them live!

This is sort of related but I feel the need to post just to document my efforts. This time last year I decided to take on the DLM challenge, watch 366 movies in 2016 (keep in mind it was a Leap Year). The rules were to watch a movie you haven't seen before and I clarified that a film has to be at least one hour long and comedy specials didn't count. I kept track of every movie I watched, the date and the method I watched. For the most party, most of the films I watched were at best "mediocre" or simply "just watchable." I had the convenience of a library of movies from Netflix and Hulu. There were only a handful of new movies I saw in which I greatly enjoyed. At times I was way behind and questioned if I'd finish. But the completest that I am I soldiered on. Now I am happy to say with just five days left of the year I reached 366 films. There was never going to be any prize or public recognition. It was simply a challenge to myself. Well, I accomplished it so just as the new year begins, I can go back to binge-watching TV shows. I was going to post my list of movies but figured it'd take up too much space on here.

That challenge always seemed so unpleasant to me. Turns something that should be relaxing and enjoyable into a task you have to do, but at the same time I envy your commitment. I feel like I used to make such an effort to see everything new, and now I have a hard time even getting around to seeing things that I really want to (and I can see movies for free, so it's pretty inexcusable). So good on you.

What was the best movie you watched? And what was the worst?

  19. Along with the questions asked above, I wouldn't mind seeing the whole list. Maybe asterisk the ones you truly enjoyed.

In terms of 2016 movies, I'd say Green Room, Swiss Army Man, and Hell or High Water were my favorites. I decided to end the challenge on a bang so earlier today I did a double feature of Manchester By The Sea and La La Land. Both really enjoyable but still processing my feelings. In terms of older movies I finally saw that were pleasant surprises: Eagle Vs. Shark, The Straight Story, Shattered Glass, In the Valley of Elah, Real Life, The 400 Blows. And I also watched a lot of great documentaries, particularly the ESPN 30 for 30 series. As for the worst... I'd say The Cobbler with Adam Sandler.
