The Story Behind “77”
It all began almost two years ago, on November 7, 2023, when Will sent me a late-night instrumental demo. The track was slow, simple, and beautiful—sad but not hopeless, epic yet nostalgic. From the very first listen, a melody popped in my head. I hummed it into my voice-memo app, and for reasons I still can’t fully explain, the phrase “seventy-seven” fit the melody and phrasing perfectly.

In that voice memo, I mumbled through the first lines of a chorus—nothing Pulitzer-worthy, but completely honest:

77 days since it started to rain
77 ways that I’ve tried to say something useful
77 years that we get in a life
77 times that we get to try to be truthful

At the time, life felt confusing and painful. People close to us were hurting, and the world around us felt like it was falling apart. I'm always second guessing myself, trying to find words that could help make sense of the madness, while also trying to avoid just adding to the noise. It's a delicate balance between knowing what to say and how to to say it vs. knowing when to say nothing at all.

Meant to Be
When I sent the demo back to Will, his first text was simply:

“SEVENTY-SEVEN”

…followed by:

“5 syllables”

Fun fact: All our album titles are five syllables long:

A few minutes later, I asked Will to check the date again. It was 11/7/23—11 × 7 = 77. We laughed at the coincidence, then dove deeper. I did a quick Google search which revealed this meaning:

“The number 77 is a message of reassurance from your guardian angels, letting you know that you’re on the right path and that you can trust your intuition.”

We both got chills. It was a pure, uncanny moment—like a message from above saying, “You’re right where you’re meant to be.”

Announcing “Telephone Pole”
Fast-forward nearly a year and a half, and here we are, ready to unveil 77 and release its first single, “Telephone Pole.” Choosing our lead single wasn’t easy—there are so many angles to consider these days and everyone on the team has a different opinion. But we kept coming back to you—our loyal listeners, the Colony House family, who’ve been on this journey from day one.

“Telephone Pole” sets the stage perfectly for this album. It’s a song about life’s unexpected twists and turns and how, when you step back, the random pieces might just begin to make a little more sense.
