Wonder what Coldplay's next move is? Hope they take an extended break and refill their creative space in their head, because what we heard on their last album, it was fully tapped out. Try to recreate the magic in their songs from Parachutes to Mylo. Would be soooo cool seeing them do a club tour - tickets for something that would have to be managed really well, as demand for them would be so high
Can't lie, I got all excited when I saw this thread bumped because I thought maybe it meant new music. I am very much looking forward to what they do next while also hoping it's a bit different than what they have been doing. I heard "A Sky Full of Stars" while walking through Wal-Mart the other night and was reminded of how bummed I was that with all of the remixes and versions of that song that were eventually released, we never got a 'just Coldplay playing their instruments' version of that song. No offense meant to Avicii, but whenever the song starts and I haven't heard it in a while, in my head I always say to myself "I remember not liking this song, but this is actually nice" but then it gets to a certain part and just completely and utterly derails for me. Not for me at all. Same thing with Chainsmokers collaborations. It doesn't have to be Parachutes all over again or anything like that, but for me I would love it if they musically got back towards the four of them playing their instruments type sound for the album.
A Head Full of Dreams is far and away their worst album. It's 3 years old, I sort of wish they would drop the promotion of that album altogether and get on with the next project. The Kaleidoscope EP had a couple fantastic songs on it and sounded like a return to form, hope the next record/vibe goes in that direction.
Really I just want a proper follow-up to Viva la Vida that contains a studio version of Spanish Rain.
Ah I can't wait to watch this. Coldplay is definitely one of my favorite bands, but I was so disappointed with the last album I honestly haven't thought about them much recently. All I Can Think About Is You from the last EP was really good, though, I really hope when they get back in the studio they keep following that sound.
Yeah, unfortunately I kind of agree with all of this. I just went back through the tracklist of A Head Full of Dreams, and the only song I genuinely enjoy in any real way without any qualifiers is "Everglow". "Up & Up" is the only other one for me really but the production is terrible and undercuts any emotion and feeling from the song. I have an MP3 of a live version that I've cleaned up to the best of my ability but honestly the sound is not great.
Everglow is one of the better tracks on the album but to me it still sounds like a poor man's version of the typical Coldplay piano ballad a la The Scientist or Clocks.
A Head Full of Dreams was whatever. It's the empty calories of their catalog, but I've grown to appreciate it. They're so big now I'm fine with them just pumping out stadium anthems until the end of time.
Only song I really enjoyed from it was Birds. Like someone above said, Everglow has the formula for a good Coldplay song, but it's just missing something.
About half of A Head Full of Dreams is solid, but the other half is pretty bad. Still love Ghost Stories and Mylo though. Went back to those this summer for the first time in awhile and they hold up.
I always end up feeling like some of their b-sides are absolutely essential, so for me, with a couple small tweaks I would say that GS and MX are both top tier Coldplay albums .
I love them so much. I'd say Ghost Stories and above are top tier albums for me. Mylo Viva Ghost Stories Dreams X&Y Blood Parachutes
