i quite like low but the title track is pretty formless to me besides that and twisted logic the other songs id lose are what if and a message. rest i can generally get behind
Ditto. A Message is one of my favorites from that album. I’d happily cut What If and title track though
fwiw it's the best if those 4 and i'd probably like it more if it didn't beat the whole "my song is" thing in the ground but i'm rarely a fan of that lyrical trope in general
The one I used to dislike was "The Hardest Part," but that one grew on me a lot over the years. Total Reveal-era R.E.M. worship.
Next to Johnny Rzeznik from the Goo Goo Dolls, Chris Martin is probably responsible for me breaking more guitar strings than any one else is a popular rock band. Almost every song from the first three albums that he plays on is in some slightly altered tuning.
Maybe once a year I tell myself to jam out to “Name” and always pop that G string. I never learned any Coldplay songs aside from Yellow, didn’t realize they did alt tunings. But explains why it always looks like Chris only uses two fingers whenever I see him with an acoustic guitar
Yeah isn’t yellow in standard tuning but you tweak the b string to C sharp or something? It’s been a long time since I’ve done it lol
The thing no one talks enough about with “A Sky Full of Stars” is how sad it is. All of these Ghost Stories play with hope and misery in a balance that I think only Chris Martin can pull off. Wrote about Ghost Stories ten years ago (!) on my currently defunct blog. First Impressions: Coldplay – Ghost Stories
the way other people talk about "A Sky Full of Stars" really makes me wish I didn't viscerally feel like that song is nails on a chalkboard
Moon Music reminds me a lot of A Head Full of Dreams in that I think, a few years down the road when all of the b-sides / full tracks / companion EP is released, there will be a whole album of songs here that I love
How is The Astronaut not on here? They played it on SNL last time they were on - their version of it was so good. I know they lent it to the other artist but feels like an obvious thematic fit just based on title alone.
yup - I absolutely love "All I Can Think About Is You", "A L I E N S" & "Hypnotised" I very much prefer the Coldplay-only version of "Miracles" though, which I think was a bonus track for the album in some places and was on a movie soundtrack
Yes, the "other" version of Miracles is so good. I believe it was from the end credits of the movie Unbroken
