listening to this right now and the rainbow one is the first thing I've enjoyed here, this is just so much not the sound I wanted them to settle into
Aeterna is one of my least favourite things they've ever done lmao I like Karate Kid from the bonus but that's about it for me here. actually found myself longing for the Everyday Life era through this and that album is kind of a hot mess (at least a creative one)
Everyday Life isn't a masterpiece or anything, but at least it sounds / feels to me like the whole band is playing together, as opposed to a Chris Martin solo project where he collaborates with popular EDM producers
my main problem with that album is once again they missed the easiest layup in history by leaving a fantastic song off the tracklist. Flags should have been the lead single from that album
Not THAT controversial but at the time and still to do this day, it gets a reputation for being a bit of a soppy record but I think it's more interesting/experimental than people give it credit for.
i like x&y now but it took a while to get there. its sequencing is really weird to me. found an earlier version they were considering going with apparently and it goes down a lot better for me personally (although even with this id lose like 4 songs and find gravity a home somewhere, probably after fix you)
I can understand possibly wanting to trim some fat, but you'd really want it to be 8 songs??? I absolutely love X & Y, and would want to add some of the b-sides that they left off back in
X&Y is so good, man all those songs are great. It’s been a while since I listened to it but just seeing the track list it would be hard for me to cut anything. Also shout out to “Til Kingdom Come”
that would be 9 my good sir as despite its unlisted status til kingdom come is my favorite on the album, and + gravity rounds it up to 10
yeah, it had been a looong time since I had listened to X&Y. I'd completely forgotten about the hidden song at the end. I listened to it on my drive in to work this morning and it is a BEAST. just one killer song after another. really the only song I'm not crazy about is "Fix You", and I can't tell if it was just oversaturation back in the day or what, and I can't really imagine them leaving that one off the album given how huge of a song it was. I love most of the b-sides too, but I can't really say they're stronger or better than the album tracks, only I do think "Gravity" should have made the cut somehow, somewhere. and I've always loved "Proof" too.
I came kind of late to Coldplay, so my first time seeing them live was at the 2021 Global Citizens Festival in Central Park. It was my first concert since before quar and when "Sky Full of Stars" started, under the stars, I felt so incredibly full that I am reminded of that magical moment every time I hear it and it's become an absolute favorite song of mine.
Really can’t fathom liking Coldplay and not liking “Fix You.” Sorry @Brother Beck. That’s THE Coldplay song.
I think I just overplayed it back in the day, because listening to the whole album yesterday it definitely was great honestly, I don't think there's a bad song on that album
all killer, no filler, 13 straight bangers* * (I suppose " 'til Kingdom Come" isn't really a banger in the classical sense but it's effing awesome) I love "Gravity" so much but I also recognize that fitting a 7-ish minute ballad onto that album somewhere is tough to do
Re: "Gravity," I'm guessing they felt like they had too many ballady songs on that album already, though I would absolutely be OK with both "Gravity" and "Proof" being on there. The songs I'm a little less into, though I still like them fine, are "Low," "X&Y," and "Twisted Logic." Nothing that elevates to a "cut this song" level, though. Also, I made this imaginary Coldplay album a few years ago from b-sides and EP tracks, and it rules:
yeah, if I had to pick the tracks that I think are slightly less awesome after just relistening for the first time in forever, I think I'm going with "Low" & "Twisted Logic" also. love the title track though.
