X&Y is such a neurotic and cool record. Feels very heady for a big rock album. Rush... was less, idk, vital or whatever than i remember it being. probably my least favorite of the first three
Yellow Politik White Shadows Lovers In Japan (the "Oaska Sun Mix" specifically! It cuts out the two minute piano part at the end and brings up some of the backing vocals and guitar in the mix. I know it's on Spotify, so search for it if y'all want to check it out) Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall Midnight Amazing Day Arabesque
I never really understood that Osaka Sun mix tbh - honestly sounds almost exactly the same, to my basic ears anyway, but I just can't imagine the song without "Reign of Love" immediately following
Spies Got Put A Smile On Your Face Low 42 Life in Technicolor II Paradise Always in My Head Everglow Trouble in Town
Yellow (By default - I've never listened to Parachutes) The Scientist Square One Violet Hill Charlie Brown Always In My Head Everglow Arabesque (but also Guns and Champion of the World - it's still very early!) This was a lot harder than I thought it was going to be. In most cases I have 3 or 4 songs that really are tied for my favorite on each of their albums. Even though its been almost 20 years, I still think overexposure kinda hurts "The Scientist" and "Clocks" for me. "The Scientist" in particular, which I almost always skip when listening to Rush even though I might pick it as their single best song if I had to pick one. I realized when doing this that their b-sides tend to be my favorite songs by them. Also, I just bought Parachutes.
OK, I'll play Everthing's Not Lost Amsterdam Swallowed In The Sea or Fix You Lost! or Life in Technicolor 2 Hurts Like Heaven Magic Up&Up Orphans I guess
“Lost!” is still one of the worst songs i’ve ever heard but Viva La Vida holds up pretty well. Strawberry Swing, 42, Lovers in Japan and Violet Hill rule “those who are dead are not dead, they’re just living in my head” felt like a very dumb lyric in 2008 or whatever and now it …… uhh yeah very real
i’m finding that i like this band quite a bit more than i remembered but nah lol. that song is fucking awful
finished mylo xyloto. it’s definitely not great haha. half the songs are pretty cool and jonny kinda lets loose in a cool way but half of it is awful
Can’t tell if I’m being laughed at or laughed with here but uh, sure. Speaking of, have we had a Coldplay bracket yet?
Lowkey been having a very difficult time mentally and had to go off my meds for like a week, so I probably wouldn’t have said anything otherwise but I still feel everything I said in that thread and have been feeling it for the better part of a year now. I just picked a pretty odd/less-than-obvious time to bring it up. I really don’t find it laughable at all, and wish the people who did would have actually took the time to take me up on the offer to chat privately about it but instead I just got messages from people agreeing with me. Anyway, brackets are whatever. I have fun with them when they’re bands I enjoy for a little bit, then I struggle to keep up with them and the fun wears off.
i started listening to their discography about a week ago or so and found i enjoy them overall much more than i thought. i knew i enjoyed certain songs and the first two albums, but didn't know i'd LOVE the first two albums and find them to be pretty much perfect. depending on how much someone loves the first 2 (or 3) albums, i could see some strong, strong hate for Mylo, Dreams and maybe even Viva. those albums are so different from the first two albums, even though X&Y certainly showcased what was to come to some extent. i like ranking albums not in terms of "best" but just what i enjoyed most. i like reading through some of the bracket threads to see what songs people really like, as i've found some great songs / bands through some of those, but i'd be fine if there was never another bracket thread again favorite albums order: A Rush of Blood to the Head Parachutes X&Y Everyday Life Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends A Head Full of Dreams Ghost Stories Mylo Xyloto certainly not set in stone since Everyday Life is so new, but the first two for sure are pretty cemented in place, and it would be hard for anything to be below Mylo for me. not saying it's an awful record, but what they do on that album they do better on Dreams and Ghost imo so i can deal without it. no idea yet on my 10 favorite songs. still working on that
Ghost Stories is better than i expected. it has a cool vibe. some radiohead/Bon Iver/the national type stuff i wasn’t expecting, especially “Midnight.” Like it more than Viva La Vida or Mylo Xyloto
