Now projected to debut at #5 with 45-50k equivalent sold. Even without a strong lead single that just seems so low for Coldplay. A shame too, the album is really good IMO.
In session for Annie Mac on BBC Radio 1 right now. Radio 1 - Listen Live - BBC Sounds Guns Orphans Daddy Lovers in Japan (new arrangement) Arabesque Gypsy Woman (She's Homeless) [Crystal Waters cover] Everyday Life
The more I listen the better this sounds. I’m actually surprised at how well this flows together too. Heading into “love” territory.
i've started a discography listen of Coldplay a few days ago and i'm really enjoying this. weird as shit to hear Chris swear so much in "Guns". never expected that! very early guess after 2 listens to each album has this as my 4th favorite album of theirs (behind Blood, Parachutes, X&Y). i could see it surpassing X&Y though, that album is just so long to me and i don't think the 2nd half is very strong so i sour on it a bit.
pretty much exclusively listened to this album during the MN snowstorm over Thanksgiving break kind of think it's amazing and at least their best in a while
starting my discography run through rn. parachutes is so fucking good. the only weak link on it to me is high speed, which feels a bit like a pale imitation of the bends. everything else ranges from decent to brilliant.
- "Spies" takes the cake for me for Parachutes - the title track for Rush of Blood - not sure yet on X&Y but the first half is pretty much all gold (only downside is some of the songs are a biiiiit overplayed) - "Yes" / "Lovers in Japan" / "Strawberry Swing" i think are my favs from Viva - "Every Drop is a Waterfall" / "M.M.I.X" from Mylo. Probably. - not sure of anything on Ghost Stories after 2-3 listens - "Fun" & "Hymn for the Weekend" from A Head Full of Dreams - not sure of any favorites from Everyday Life yet, but i really enjoy the atmosphere of that album more than anything since Rush of Blood.
If I had to pick a top song from each album: - Sparks - Warning Sign - Swallowed in the Sea - Death and All His Friends - Every Teardrop is a Waterfall - Midnight - Birds - Trouble in Town Damn that was actually really tough, especially for Parachutes, Rush of Blood and Viva. I smell a Coldplay bracket coming.....
Parachutes: "Yellow" Rush: "Amsterdam" X&Y: "A Message" Viva: "Lovers in Japan" (though, if "Life in Technicolor II" were on the album, that would be my pick; don't understand not opening with that when you have it.) Mylo: I view the "A Hopeful Transmission"/"Don't Let It Break Your Heart"/"Up with the Birds" stretch as one long song, and that's my pick. If that doesn't count, it's a wash between "Hurts Like Heaven" and "Us Against the World" Ghost Stories: "O" A Head Full of Dreams: "Up&Up," probably, or "Everglow." Everyday Life: "Old Friends"
Parachutes - Shiver AROBTTH - Green Eyes X&Y - The Hardest Part VLV - Violet Hill genuinely haven't enjoyed anything off of the others, save the new one that i haven't heard yet, but that's part of what this run-thru is for
Parachutes - Don’t Panic A Rush.. - Clocks (Preferably the live version off of LeftRightLeftRightLeft) X&Y - Twisted Logic Viva La Vida - Lovers In Japan Mylo Xyloto - Hurts Like Heaven Ghost Stories - Midnight A Head.. - Hymn For The Weekend Everyday Life - Arabesques
Shiver The Scientist Fix You Viva La Vida Every Teardrop is a Waterfall A Sky Full of Stars Fun Sunrise
Yellow (!) Green Eyes White Shadows Violet Hill Charlie Brown Midnight Colour Spectrum Sunrise (?) .... you get the idea
