Gave this album a chance after reading Jason's review of it and seeing it on the End of Year lists. Very good! Very Gaslight / Menzingers realm so I'm into it. I can't believe they're from Aberdeen though, that's so close to me and absolutely surprised by it.
Love this album. Those I play it for generally laugh at just how much it sounds like Green Day, especially things like the vocal affectations on Say Goodbye ("everything will be just fine"). And honestly that was my initial reaction but the more I stuck with it I just had to admit the songs are too good to care if they seem derivative. At worst it's the best Green Day album since 2004. (And I like 21cbd.) I'd definitely argue the record is much more than that. Probably top 3 aoty for me at this point.
When. Is. This. Band. Coming. To. The. US. seriously, I’ll drop a good chunk of change at their merch table it’ll be fine
Yeah after all the hype on this site I was a bit disappointed as in my opinion it's a fair rip off of half the tracks on American Idiot and vocally especially so.
Saying this is a Green Day rip off is a great disservice to the record/band imo. The influences are way more far ranging than just Green Day
I agree. But it's still notable when every single person I introduce the album to mentions Green Day within about 5 seconds. Then again American Idiot is 18 (!!) years old. So it's the equivalent of people saying Dookie sounded just like the Ramones S/T. It's been a long time since anyone sounded like prime epic arena Green Day. Including Green Day.
This cover rips. I give less than a solitary fuck about people just thinking they’re aping Green Day. Green Day hasn’t written anything this good in half a decade.
Youngblood, Bang Bang and Forever Now all absolutely rip live. Saw them twice on RR tour and they crushed. Folks screaming along to every word. That’s hard to do 25 years into a career with new material.
Revolution Radio had some decent stuff on it, but overall Goodbye to Misery would easily be the best Green Day album since 2009. And I think the Green Day influence is completely warranted and should be embraced lol. This album also put me on a big Green Day kick over the summer!
Been enjoying this album a lot, wouldn't have checked it out without seeing this thread so thanks everyone! and thanks Jason for sharing this
