Part of me wants to try to get a copy of SSTB but man, reading the comics really soured me on the lyrics to this one. Josephine’s story treatment realllly sucks. Claudio is definitely a 90s comic kid with regards to sex & violence. No shade to him or to anyone who shakes it off while listening just something I personally struggle with.
Claudio definitely has some problematic lyrics and storylines across the band's few albums and their respective stories so I get that. I cringe at some of his earlier stuff these days, particularly for Backend of Forever and Al the Killer
Yep, that's why I don't recommend the comics. The less you know the better. I don't know if Claudio has ever explicitly said it, but he seems like he would feel the same way about those lyrics these days.
I think he's said something at a show about the lyrics on Al the Killer before the band played it. I can't recall what specifically he said, but I know he's acknowledged his bad lyrics in some way. It's worth mentioning too that he's obviously grown since those first three albums and his lyrics from basically NWFT-onward reflect that
I don't think I'm capable of thinking critically about SSTB or IKS lol. They were so formative for me as a kid that they just...exist. I still feel the same way when I listen to them now that I did back then.
I am excited to own SSTB and this variant looks cool. But I am going to need them to re-press Afterman soon.
GA is popping up on sites pretty often, I've seen some posts on r/TheFence about it. EDIT: Just checked, this is on Amazon and Discogs for decent prices. I wonder if the problem here is that they self released Afterman?
Yeah idk if I'll be able to snag a repress of SSTB, but a repress of IKS would be sweet. My copy skips at one point during the bridge of Blood Red Summer. I was devastated to discover it on my first listen
Snagged one. Between this and getting Boxcar last month, I am really knocking out some albums I never thought I'd own on wax.
I am disappointed, but I can live with a regular black vinyl for this record. If this were Afterman, I'd be pretty inconsolable.
