IKSSE Apollo Second Stage No World For Tomorrow Ascension/Descension tied Vaxis Color Before The Sun Black Rainbow
neverender was the first song i ever heard by coheed. sent to me by a friend on the sims online hahah. it definitely gets a lot of nostalgic love from me!
End Complete always felt like it had all of the elements of Coheed distilled in one song, it’s fresh even today. The suite with Radio Bye Bye and Road and the Damned included, makes it one of the best things they’ve made FMP. I wanted to see this live so bad, before the time we don’t need to say.
I agree, love the 8 minute epics! And that breakdown in the middle is awesome radio bye bye is awesome too
It’s surprising to see so many variations in ranking the albums, I’m one who would have ranked SSTB high initially but it’s changed with Vaxis and will surely change dramatically with Shoulders and what will accompany that song
It’s hard to beat that first album. First 9 tracks could have all been singles it’s a pure masterpiece
no world for tomorrow finally clicked for me when vaxis came out. one of my fave coheed albums now. was very disappointed in it at the time lol
I don't do rankings much, but I'm going to throw this shit out there. 1: The Afterman (if separated they'd still be numbers 1 and 2, but with Descension above Ascension) 2: The Unheavenly Creatures 3: The Color Before the Sun 4: In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3 5: Year of the Black Rainbow 6: From Fear Through the Eyes of Madness 7: The Second Stage Turbine Blade 8: No World for Tomorrow I don't think there's a single other person on the planet who ranks Coheed albums like this.
I might need to do a relisten. I remember being extremely underwhelmed with it after the run from SSTB- GA
Everyone seems to feel that Year of the Black Rainbow is the black sheep/outlier of Coheed's discography while personally I think it's The Colour Before the Sun. YOTBR was a muddy event but there are a few tracks that really click (Here We Are Juggernaut and Far are personal faves) - TCBTS to me just feels like a radio-rock reach that didn't work at all. Island is a great pop song, but from there on its very rock-by-numbers which is just too low a bar for Coheed (You've Got Spirit Kid is their low point as a band for me, dreadful single choice) Good Apollo In Keeping Secrets The Afterman Vaxis No World for Tomorrow Second Stage Turbine Blade Year of the Black Rainbow The Colour Before the Sun
unheavenly creatures > in keeping secrets > no world for tomorrow > good Apollo > aftermans > sstb > color before the sun > year of the black rainbow every album is phenomenal besides black rainbow
IKSSE3 GA1 SSTB Vaxis GA2 Ascension TCBTS Descension YOTBR (from a non coheed standpoint, Chris pennie is a beast on guns of summer)
since we;re doing rankings why not In Keeping Secrets GA1 Vaxis SSTB Descension Ascension NWFT YOTBR TCBTS
I guess my secret opinion no one asked for is that the color before the sun is full of bangers and is a super fun, low stakes record from a band that typically deals in very high concept, dense albums. it was a nice breather and the songs are slamming.
What a weird thing to say lol it’s still clearly talented. Just because they wrote more pop focused songs doesn’t make it a less talented record TCBTS is a great album and was a good refresh for the band to do something not based in concept.
