I only care for Island, Here To Mars, Atlas, Peace To The Mountain. The only song I willingly put on is Island.
TCBTS got way too much shit from fans, and I still don't get why. I can hear the pitchforks coming already, but... it's honestly on par with either of the Afterman discs imo. Not only that, but I really enjoy the specific songs people are hating on like YL and Audience. Spirit is the weak link.
TCBTS is fine for what it is: a batch of catchy, inoffensive rock songs. Young Love is fine, the intro riff is not great though. The worst offender on there is The Audience. It's them trying to write a heavy, dark, Coheed song when that obviously wasn't where their head was at the time.
I mean... it just depends on what your favorite part of Coheed is. If you really enjoy the lighthearted poppy songs, I get it. But I think most Coheed fans like the prog/heaviness along with the catchiness, which is why stuff like IKS/GA/Afterman are fan favorites.
I love both aspects of Coheed because I am a fan Coheed. That's their sound. I just don't think it's a good album.
I love the prog/heavy facet of the band from the older records. My favorite songs the band has ever written are the darker and heavier cuts from IKS and GA:IV. I just think Afterman was far more scattershot and mediocre than most seem to on here. At least TCBTS did the melodic straightforward rock thing well, even if that isn't your favorite side of Coheed.
My favorite parts of The Afterman discs were the times where they tried something new: Number City and Evagria. There are a number of great standard Coheed tracks on each album but they've never done anything like those 2 songs and they both worked amazingly.
At this rate, this'll probably be complete today, yes? Hopefully a preorder/full announcement on Friday.
It’s crazy how sci fi they’re being with the artwork. They’ve always been sci fi, but the artwork has never really reflected that.
