I'm a huge story nerd, and I always thought that the fourth-wall break in GA1 was a huge part of what made it so unique. Most writers (and I just mean in general, not bands with stories) would just fourth-wall break to be meta or if they run out of ideas, but GA1 pushes the story forward in a fascinating way, and it's also really really terrifying and unnerving, both as music and story. yeah some of the lyrics are... problematic, but that's not really isolated to that album to be fair (see: die white girls etc). I just take it as Claudio purging some dark thoughts through the music so he can remain a lovable goofball irl.
Every album Coheed has put out has been quality, no sub par albums, they are one of the best bands around
I think everyone should know this by now, but Coheed have tweeted this article out that confirms this record will continue the Amory Wars story and will pick up where NWFT left off, and that it is a pentalogy (five-parter) Coheed and Cambria's Claudio Sanchez confirms return to Amory Wars concept for next album - Music News - ABC News Radio
Yes. I mean, that. If you’re reading this, coheed. You have completely lost my attention. What is a coheed?
Just an FYI they planed The Dark Sentencer yesterday at the festival in Cincinnati in case anyone was wondering if they were going to play it at non-headlining shows. Opened with it, too!
This prologue/song is everything I love about epic Coheed tracks. Some story-telling intro and then a long epic 7+ minute song with plenty of chant-worthy parts. Right up there with In Keeping Secrets and Domino as far as intro/song pairs go.
Not quite as hyped on this new single as everyone else. Decent, but seems vaguely like a blander and less ambitious "Domino." It has the mood and tone of GA:IV but little of the complexity.
Honestly I liked the song when I first heard it last week, but did kinda agree too that it was a blend of Domino/NWFT vibes. Though yesterday The Dark Sentencer REALLLLY gelled with me. I’m all about it now.
it's definitely along the lines of domino, but the style of production/mixing really elevates the song for me. reminds me of good apollo 1 which is awesome!
