Between the album art and the massive riffage, this sounds like the long last album between Good Apollo and No World for Tomorrow that I didn't know I wanted The guitar work alone is light years beyond The Color Before The Sun What is this band's deal sometimes I wonder? They throw kinks like YOTBR or TCBTS into their discography to mess with us, and always return to the heart-pounding riffs that they do so easily
They experiment and do what they want. Can’t fault a band for that even if some albums aren’t as good as others (I still really enjoy Year of the Black Rainbow and The Color Before the Sun).
They don't have an album in their discography that I dislike, just some that are lower rung than others but like, fuck if I'm gonna deny some more Coheed
YOTBR can be explained by some burnout, I think, combined with weird production choices. TCBTS was about to be a PFI album, but then Claudio decided to get everyone else in on it. This album is coming right after that, along with playing the 10 year GA shows, with a very deliberate attempt to move back to The Amory Wars. Some people prefer the poppy rock songs, but based on the reaction from this, more people prefer the long, proggy, riff laden songs.
How am I supposed to take "What's this bands deal"? You're implying that they're putting out albums you don't like to mess with you. They experimented.
Yeah Joe4th, that's totally what I was implying - that this band puts out albums solely to mess with me. I'm that big of a deal. It was an off the cuff remark - I'm curious as to why every few albums they don't play to their obvious strengths. They experimented. Yes. That's not new information, but thanks for clarifying.
You literally said it yourself. And them experimenting is the answer to the question. What are you looking for here?
Weird look for Roadrunner. IMO it was smart to release it since someone ripped it already since it was up on NZ's Spotify. Now they are getting YouTube royalties instead of everyone listening to a rip.
I lost interest after Year of the Black Rainbow and heard Domino and was like "ok they're back and so the fuck am I." I lost interest after their last album and heard this and was like "bah gawd they did it again!" set phasers to HYPE I know it's not 2012 anymore but I have to say this is epic
Here it is but for some reason it's missing the guitar track: Definitely nothing, vibe wise, like the song. But the feeling the new song gave me was the same as when I'd watch this on repeat junior year ha. Also, Josh is good as fuck. Damn.
Thanks! Excited to check this out. Josh really does add a ton to this band. Pennie may be the technically better drummer but Josh just fits their sound better.
Yeah that’s a weird look for Roadrunner, especially when this is Coheed’s first release with them. Seems very petty and like KalValor said, something that should be handled internally.
I mean, it kind of makes Claudio look better for giving fans something early? So in a sense they're helping!
Was really hoping they would rush it out to Apple Music as well so that i could listen on my flight tonight. Too bad.
