gonna listen and live post my thoughts in the below spoiler tags ok the intro of this song is metal as fuck this is super Domino-y ok yeah one fuckin baller Claudio melody after another lyrics from what I can make out are classic Coheed oh YES Travis leads alright totally in on this shit
Taking a stab at the lyrics in what seems to be the chorus “Here where the light only dies to remember, in the place where the blind truly can see. Hear my voice, give me your burdens, I’ll beg on my knees. It’s been my pleasure to serve your disease. Welcome home, shed your skin and expose your bones. Take my hand, and follow us into the black, it’s a void I’ll be taking back.”
My goodness, so many thoughts: Riffs are back, more importantly, Travis sounds ENGAGED. Lyrics are, uhhh, very dark. No more half verses, at least not on this song. Song is incredibly catchy. That part where it all cuts out and it’s just Claudio singing with zack doing falsetto in the background is beautiful, and leads right into the Travis solo. The bridge might be my favorite part. COHEED ARE BACK! I haven’t felt like this since Domino was released, but even then, Travis didn’t sound this good. They haven’t riffed together this well since GA/NWFT.
I told myself I wouldn't listen, but I did It's incredible. This album is going to be something else if this is any indication. This is the Coheed I fell in love with. Revisiting GA1 did wonders for them and seems to really have inspired them. I'm so excited to learn the lore behind this album, because this is daaaaark. Travis' riff in this song is one of his best. God, I'm stupidly excited for this.
If Travis makes a return to form this will be their best since GA. He hasn't brought the leads/riffs since NWFT.
Afterman albums are still great, but would've been even better if there were some better riffs. Domino obviously was huge, but overall Travis has let me down a little, not as much as other people have been down on him though
Listening to Ascension right now and Vic the Butcher still rips. Domino is so much more impactful lyrically now having lost a friend to substance issues.
Don't get me wrong, Afterman is great, but Travis is lacking on most of it. His leads (especially during the chorus of Domino) sound like a wet noodle.
I think he’s still doing a lot of interesting things, he’s just a bit more buried in the mix. Not quite IKS/GA level but still has a lot of solid leads.
