Claudio is one of the most talented musicians on this earth. I've always been so impressed by his singing and shredding and he's just gotten better with time. He's also a master of guitar tones too. Hes an absolute genius at both of his instruments (voice and guitar)
I agree that he wasn't a good fit, but he did a pretty decent to good job all things considered. Also, if we're talking about underrated songs, how about Deranged
I'm trying to think of any other singers out there that lost some of their capability along the way and then were able to get it back. Most of the Chris Pennie era they tuned down most songs a half step (not GA1 because it was recorded that way) because it was too taxing for him as recorded. But in the last 5-6 years he sounds as good as he ever has, even on the old old shit that is really up there vocally. I don't know how he does it also Deranged slaps
This band is technically and creatively the best out there! They should be selling out arenas ! Do you think this will ever happen?
yeah i remember one of the things about YOTBR that i didnt immediately like was Claudios voice being a tad weaker than previous and subsequent records, but on the aftermans and especially color before the sun he's doing vocal acrobatics again
honestly if they stick around, a decade or two down the road when they'll be the age of a "legacy" act i can see them drawing in arena size crowds off their most popular albums and the nostalgia for them. they're still a really well known name as it is and the older they get the more their legacy is cemented. they're one of the most important, if not the most important, progressive rock band of the 00's.
This. Also, I feel like they didn’t spend a lot of time on the vocals in that album in general. Someone who knows more about the recording process can feel free to correct me ,but I’m pretty sure almost all of When Skeletons Live was just one vocal take. And that can be awesome, but it doesn’t match the rest of the mix to me..
Wasn't he suffering from acid reflux around that time? Could have been the reason they dropped down a half step and why his voice didn't seem as powerful.
slightly off topic but I'm super angry I was 15 and didn't go to shows when that Coheed/Pianos/MovMou C market small venue tour happened
Everybody always rags on Mothers of Men, but I’m all about it. It’s so GA era Coheed just like a lot of Ascension.
Yes...Good Night Fair Lady, Mothers of Men, Domino. They’re all very much more akin to GA era than NWFT, and YOTBR. I remember many others saying the same thing upon release. Thought that was the general consensus...
That was/is my thinking as well. TBH I have no idea why I don't love Mothers of Men bc it would fit in pretty well on GA, from a songwriting perspective, and I love every song on GA
"Once Upon" was skippable for me for years, and then one day it clicked. Such a genius riff. Also, "Godsend" showing up on multiple bottom 10 lists seems outrageous to me, but it was also one I totally didn't get for a year or two after first discovering SSTB.
Domino, totally... not seeing the others tho. Goodnight and Mothers would each be the most straightforward, boring (non-acoustic/interlude) track on GA if they were on it. Maaaybe "Mother May I" is in similar territory.
I'm pretty sure Claudio quit smoking, and speaking of... This was the first tour where he sounded back to tip top shape. Honestly, its part of the reason why I don't go back to the live Neverender stuff since he sounds so much better now. That tour was great though, they played a lot of IKS, Sentry before it was released, the most powerful version of Mother Superior, NWFT with Josh blew my mind the first time I heard it (he destroys the breakdown), AND it had their Somebody That I Used to Know cover. Also, PBTT were so great, and I was really proud of them and Coheed for giving them that opportunity. Heck, that might've been my favorite show ever.
My goodness I just looked up the setlist for my date of that one: Time Consumer No World for Tomorrow Cuts Marked in the March of Men Three Evils (Embodied in Love and Shadow) Deranged Feathers The Crowing Ten Speed (Of God's Blood and Burial) Here We Are Juggernaut Devil in Jersey City The Camper Velourium I: Faint of Hearts Mother Superior Somebody That I Used to Know (Gotye cover) In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3 Encore: Key Entity Extraction V: Sentry the Defiant A Favor House Atlantic Welcome Home
A song released exclusively for the Batman: Arkham City video game. EDIT: This is way better than I remembered it being. Very YOTBR in mood, but the execution is better.
I take it back, Crossing The Frame is cool. I'm listening to GA1 again and the only ones that haven't done much for me are Upon A Dying Body and The Lying Lies
Lying Lies is one of my favorites bc Travis' leads on that song are sooooo good. If you haven't listened to that song with just him in mind I recommend doing that, it changes the game. I come back to this video a lot bc you can see/hear him so clearly
This just reminded how terrible a song Young Love is How does that lazy intro riff even make its way off their pile of ideas, legitimate question That's what bummed me out most about TCBTS, its the kind of album Coheed could write in their sleep. I await better.
