I've never enjoy GA1 as much as others on here/AP. I don't know why because I think it's got a lot of very good and great songs on it. I guess because it's so long it wears me out a bit. That's why I love the Afterman albums so much. They're so concise and are not short of bangers. This band has a lot of good albums though. Almost none of them would puzzle me if they were somebody's favorites. I'd say only YOTBR and TCBTS...maybe NWFT, but that album is really good.
The thing I love most about GA1 is how effortlessly catchy it all is. Even in the deep cuts, everything is such a goddamn earworm.... little guitar leads and harmonies get stuck in my head as easily as lead vocal chorus melodies. And it's all so layered, there's so much to unpack musically, more than any of their other albums. I'm pretty sure there's like 5 different vocal tracks going on in The Suffering, but does it sound too busy? No. Genius shit
I'm going to attempt to do this because I feel pretty confident in this list of my favorite Coheed songs. 1. Three Evils 2. Domino 3. The Crowing 4. Sentry 5. In Keeping Secrets... 6. Evagria 7. Delirium Trigger 8. The Suffering 9. Number City 10. Mother Superior
This might have changed since the last time I algorithmically sorted it, but as of like 6 months ago it was: 1. Willing Well I 2. Willing Well II 3. In Keeping Secrets 4. The Crowing 5. Ten Speed 6. The Light and the Glass 7. Once Upon Your Dead Body 8. Everything Evil 9. Evagria the Faithful 10. Far
I'm still not happy with it. There's a bunch of ones I love that I left off: Time Consumer Everything Evil Blood Red Summer A Favor House Atlantic The Light & The Glass 21:13 No World For Tomorrow Here We Are Juggernaut The Afterman Gravity's Union Way too many great songs from this band.

I really think I might have the same #1 even though the darker/proggier stuff dominates my list. It's pretty much the most infectious song ever, and the poster child for how they used to bury so much complexity and great guitar work under an amazingly poppy front.
My opinion on the album completely flipped after five years of not listening to most of it. I definitely fell into the crowd of fans that did not enjoy it because of the guitar wankery and metal worship and not much prog, but NWFT slaps and soars more than most of their records do.
I was in the same boat but not as harsh on it to begin with, but as I got more and more into metal the bulk of the album started to appeal to me more than it had in the past
Except for a few songs, NWFT is basically a pure tribute to early-mid 80s glam metal. I totally despise that aesthetic and just can't get past the cringiness of the production, synths, etc. If you can get past that then yeah, I can see how there's some decent songwriting and cool guitar work. I don't think any number of relistens will make me start liking it, though. I also hate that starting with NWFT, the hair metal wankery has shown up on every album to some degree. Skimming through it again reminded me Mother Superior is pretty good, though.
