Here We Are, Juggernaut When they released that on their site's homepage before YOTBR I kept refreshing their site. Also, that and Circa's "Get Out" were released aorund the same time and I was obsesssed with both. Then I was over the moon when they toured together on their respective albums.
the song's popularity is clouding your judgment, Welcome Home rules. Two people with cowboy avatars in the same thread is confusing me.
Descension is definitely stronger than Ascension, but Iron Fist is easily one of my least favorite Coheed songs ever. Unnecessary electronic bleeps and bloops, and the GD's feel overdone, especially at the end.
If you took Iron Fist off Descension I would not notice. IKS Afterman YOTBR Good Apollo SSTB Color NWFT I look forward to the clever reaction gifs.
It will never not be strange to me so see someone criticize a song over swearing. I remember when (I'm sorry) Brand New released I Am A Nightmare and a bunch of people were mentioning how that song having "goddamn" in it pulled them out of it. Very strange. That said, Iron Fist is one of my favorites too. I really love any Coheed with an acoustic guitar though. I feel like if they did an acoustic record, it would be my favorite release of theirs.
Iron Fist is a weird one for me. Before they released the record, they were playing the song fully acoustic live. It was amazing, ang I remember when hearing it in that form thinking it was one of my favorite songs of theirs. But the arrangement on the actual record is so odd and disjointed that it takes away from how great the song can be. And if it was between that arrangement and not having the song at all on the record, I’d choose the latter. They should have kept it fully acoustic.
For me it’s “The Hound” and “The Fall of House Atlantic”. My two least favorite Coheed songs...completely throw off the flow of the record for me
I'm going back through this band's discography today for the first time in years. Will double back with thoughts and takes. On IKS now
As for SSTB, I still really like it after not having listened to it since like 2013. Time Consumer, Everything Evil, and Delirium Trigger are still tbe best songs on there. Devil In Jersey City and 33 are super fun ones too. Though I will say I feel like the album tails off for me after 33. Still good songs, but they don't stick with me like just about everything else before them.
Kind of curious... for those of you counting The Afterman as one album... which part of the double-album is your favorite?
They're pretty consistent to me. About 2/3's I love, and 1/3 I think are mediocre songs in their discog. The starting stretch from Key - Afterman, Key Entity II - IV, and Key V - Hard Sell, Gravity's Union, and Dark Side of me are top tier.
Ascension has the title track and Evagria which are 2 of my favorite Coheed songs ever so it gets the edge. Both are very good
I love both Afterman albums, but I had preferred Descension overall. We'll see how I feel when I get to them. Currently on Good Apollo 1. IKS is still great though and I think this may still be my favorite album from them. It has a lot of what I love from the band. It has soaring hooks (Three Evils, Blood Red Summer, Favor House) and it's got blistering prog rock anthems (title track, The Crowing, 21:13). Plus it has The Light And The Glass. I can't say I'm as head over heels for it as I was five years ago, but I still love it and I think it's this band's magnum opus. I can only begin to imagine how awesome it would have been to see them on this album cycle and see them play only SSTB and IKS songs.
