If them deviating from the story means lyrics like "No I'm not mad, lean on me man", I'll take the confusing story any day
I don't even think it's a misstep. It's really straightforward, which can be jarring coming from Good Apollo, but it is chock full of awesome classic rock worship front to back. Title track is one of my favorite songs of theirs.
NWFT is a great counterpart to GA1, which was all about being dark and proggy. NWFT is just there to rock out. Opening three songs and closing 3 songs rule and the stuff in the middle is mostly pretty good with the exception of Running Free which is one of their worst songs.
nah i just skimmed the tracklist and put on running free because i havent heard it in a very long time, i still like it. think ill run through the album now though
The general quality of NWFT is lower than GA1 but it doesn't have any real missteps besides Justice In Murder which is pretty boring imo
The Running Free is probably their worst single ever IMO. It starts out so nicely and then when Claudio's voice spirals atonally up the octave for "All non-believers stand aside in fear" its just out the window. That vocal melody is so awkward in the context of the song and it never really recovers.
No that's me. I'm currently on YOTBR. This one isn't bad, it's got some great songs, but some songs are terribly mediocre and a couple of them really aren't good. The title track especially irks me, especially considering how good their closers were up to this point.
