So I've listened through both SSTB and IKS. I wish I was around for the release of IKS. I can't imagine only hearing SSTB and then being blown away when IKS (the song) comes on for the first time. I think IKS, Crowing, Backend of Forever, and TLATG are my favorites. TLATG might be my favorite Coheed song ever.
color before the sun is their most fun record imo. in keeping secrets is their best but no world for tomorrow isnt far off imo.
I think mine is: In Keeping Secrets Good Apollo Afterman (counting both as one) No World for Tomorrow Second Stage Color Before the Sun YOTBR
I prefer tiers of enjoyment to numerical ranking. Its just easier for me to organize my thoughts that way. Within the tiers they are listed in chronological order. For Coheed, it looks like this: Good Apollo Afterman IKS SS NWFT CotS YotBR
In Keeping Secrets Second Stage Afterman Good Apollo No World for Tomorrow Color Before the Sun YOTBR
Okay, ready for the hate. 1: Descension 2: Ascension 3: The Color Before the Sun 4: Year of the Black Rainbow 5: In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3 6: Goop Appolo 7: Second Stage Turbine Blade 8: No World for Tomorrow
1, IKKSE3 2. Good Apollo 3. Descension 4. Second Stage Turbine Blade 5. Ascension 6. No World For Tomorrow 7. Color 8. YOTBR
Honestly, Good Apollo was my bottom for the first year or so I liked the band. It really drags on (especially the willing well songs), and is maybe a bit too self-indulgent at times. There are still some great songs on there though. I prefer how concise and focused the band has become recently. I think the Afterman albums are genuinely perfect. And Color Before the Sun is just crazy fun.
Good Apollo is a really hateful album that yes, is long, but none of the songs themselves are inaccessible, there are just a lot of songs. The Willing Wells are still the golden standard of Coheed songwriting for me. I don't think they'll ever release a better run of songs than that.
As fun as "Island" was, I don't see how its more fun than "Blood Red Summer" or "A Favor House Atlantic" or "Feathers". They've had fun songs all along but their songwriting creativity has begun to circle the drain.
It wasn't really underrated. A lot of people liked that album who hadn't been Coheed fans since the IKS/Good Apollo days.
