Not exactly sounding like my favorite of their experimentations, but I’m glad they’re still trying out new things, and I highly doubt it’s indicative of the album as a whole. It sounds very energized though, which is something I loved about Vaxis II, so hopefully the album keeps up the pace.
Song is fine. If this is this album's version of Holly Wood, it's definitely better than that. Biggest thing I take away from this is that the production sounds similar to Vaxis II, and Travis sounds engaged with his leads, so I'm excited for what comes next.
SSTB: 33 - still good, really hard to choose IKS: Al the Killer - mainly due to lyrical content. Great otherwise GA:I: Either Once Upon Your Dead Body or Lying Lies... both are still good but don't add a lot to the album. NWFT: Radio Bye Bye - mainly due to my huge disappointment with it as a "suite song" that really isn't doing anything new YOTBR: Title track - I hate it, I know some of y'all like it Ascension: Holly Wood - no notes Descension: Iron Fist - probably my most controversial pick? They let this one cook too long. Too many electronic elements and layers, was much better as acoustic. TCBTS: Young Love - potentially the most boring Coheed song ever Vaxis I: Unheavenly Creatures - the whispered scream vocal style Claudio was experimenting with didn't work for me, and this song has it all over the place and it's boring Vaxis II: Blood I guess? Truly the hardest for me to pick since NWFT.
definitely not my favorite, but im sure the whole album wont sound like this. also, this is a really short song. 2:22
Does the intro sound like a minor version of the Crossing the Frame riff to anyone else? (Obviously not note for note, but very similar)
