So was this from sessions for the new album or older album? Also that note of "yet to be announced follow up album coming soon on Virgin Music" is cool. That's a new label right. EDIT: HOOO boy, this Deranged sounds so good. YOTBR remaster when.
An album in the direction of Deranged would be so up my alley. I love that song and I’m so glad that we’re getting a proper release and new mix of it
Until otherwise told, I'm going to guess this was a holdover from Vaxis II. The downtuned guitars are similar in tone to Love Murder One and obviously the synth parts are very A Disappearing Act-esque.
It was from the Vaxis II sessions, they're either about to start recording V3 with Zakk or they just started in the last week or so (Travis confirmed recently)
I think this is a fun release! The Joke has grown on me a lot after a few listens, and I love having the new version of Deranged. It’s a cool little placeholder while they work on the new album.
Yeah I like that the holdover isn't on the album. Shoulders was out for 9ish months before Vaxis II came out, I was kind of tired of it by the time I was listening to the full album.
Wasn’t the rollout for Vaxis II nearly a year long? I remember Shoulders coming out in late summer of 2021 or something like that Weird rollout, but I understand the pandemic likely had a lot to do with that
I want to say it came out in either July or August, then the album wasn't announced until November when Rise, Naianasha was announced. That was a 7 month lead time from that single, so WAYYYY too long of a rollout, so definitely some COVID holdover issues I'm guessing. Hopefully we don't have that again.
Didn’t they say that Vaxis II was initially intended to be released in 2021? I think I remember reading about how the album was finished in 2020 or early 2021. Maybe I’m misremembering. Wish I caught them on that album cycle on that album cycle though. Hopefully I get a chance to see Beautiful Losers, Comatose, The Liars Club, and Rise Naianasha
Seeing them on the Alk3 tour and NWFT/AWOTWM tour has led me to see a vast majority of it live. Rise and Ladders of Supremacy are my favorites.
The Joke is fine; definitely enjoy Deranged more and am glad it got a re-recording. Excited to see what Vaxis III is going to be like
Immediately hearing the joker I was like oh yeah it’s got that Vaxis II sound and immediately wanted to toss it on. I didn’t get a chance to but with the weather heating up I know I’ll be busting it out soon.
I put on Vaxis I after listening through the singles, haha. Having a good time with it. I definitely have some complaints, but it’s mostly water under the bridge these days.
