I feel like revisionists are going to say Vaxis II isn't good because of how good this one is but I think it's just as good, just in a different way.

@Jason Tate I totally get that it was kind of hard to answer the "is there a big prog epic here?" question I initially raised, because there really isn't one. Continuum in tone feels like that overall, but there's no Domino, Gravity's Union, The Dark Sentencer, or Ladders of Supremacy, but I think that energy comes through in different parts scattered throughout here instead of just in the main epic of the album.

lol yeah V2 is borderline unlistenable to me whereas most of this is fire, so we're def gonna be a contingent.

Interesting when you put it that way... I feel like this is the spiritual successor to GA1 and has proggy vibes all over the place, but actually, it doesn't go over the top on any one song. I think they've finally gone back to melding the pop and prog within songs here, which was what made their early work so exceptional.

  5. My brain can not comprehend finding two unlistenable and liking this. They're ... very similar? I don't know if that's hyperbole, but ... it does not compute.

I enjoy the first two but this one is much more immediate for me, really like basically everything here

Looking forward to spending more time with this album this weekend, but my first impression is more positive than my first impression of Vaxis 2 was, but not as good as my first impression of Vaxis 1

I’m still learning this one obviously, but the main difference to me is that both guitars are intertwining riffs in a way they haven’t done since GA:1. The other part is the hooks are way less straightforward, but not in a way that makes them less catchy, but they just feel like they sat on them and perfected them longer than they have on the more recent efforts.

Initial listen has this behind both vaxis 1 and 2 but I need more time with it

Still waiting for an hour when I can listen to this without distraction. Usually I have a few free hours on a Friday afternoon but my kids nursery closed yesterday and I had to head straight out in the evening. Hopefully today I can get a long walk in today to listen

I don't hear the close similarities other than production, and I've seen plenty of fans much happier with 3 than 2 elsewhere. Love it or hate it, imo V2 really stands out as an anomaly stylistically if you do a full discog run.

Based on a few listens, I think Vaxis I > II > III for me. Plenty to like on all three but the longer, proggier songs and slightly less brickwalled sound make UC more my speed.

Pretty strongly disagree but I think everyone finds different things they love about the band

I've been showing my brother some songs from this and the other Vaxis albums and he's super impressed. He hasn't listened to the band since like 2003 because his music tastes have heavily changed and morphed, but he's like "I am glad to hear they still kick ass and people are still invested in their music"

Feels really full circle because he showed me them when I was a little kid and they blew my mind, and now I get to return the favour all these years later

The songwriting/re-energized band with the production of Vaxis I would be best, but I think Zakk being a true producer/editor really has helped Claudio, so I gotta take the good with the bad here. Thankfully it’s mostly good.

Memories are nice, but that's all they are. Prestigious

Vaxis II really does not stand out as an anomaly of their discography. Always baffled when people say that.

I feel like I say this every time they release something but Josh is my favorite drummer, he’s an absolute joy to listen to and watch play

Hello coheed fans. I have never listened to coheed and Cambria much because I just always thought his voice was a little odd and I never delved more than that. But I will be seeing them because my bbs Foxing are opening for them this summer so if one were to start listening to coheed where should one start

The safe answer is In Keeping Secrets. It’s the classic. But honestly I think their most recent two are the most accessible music they’ve ever made, and are also not a bad place to start.

  25. Yeah, I’d probably peep the set lists and see where they’re most heavy, last two albums are great and if there’s a lot of those songs in there that’s a fun jumping off point.
