Yeah I remember being disappointed in NWFT because I got into this band hard with GA1 and IKS. Disappointed as in, I burned the CD rather than bought it lol. Definitely have come around on it more since then.

I have a different prospective on this in that I listened to GA1, GA2, Afterman, and Vaxis I all at the same time for the first time (just got back into these guys earlier this year). I thought GA2 is great though i could see if you were expecting GA1 the sequel it would be a bit of a letdown. But GA2 has some absolute heaters.

NWFT took me a while to get into aside from a handful of songs. In hindsight, I don’t think it was as harsh a left turn for them as they leaned more heavily on the sound of Welcome Home for NWFT, not to mention other bangers like IKS, The Crowing, The Willing Well tracks. For me, I found myself missing their prog tendencies that were present on their first three albums and hardly, if at all, on NWFT.

Most of the time, my favorite Coheed releases strike that healthy balance of the alt rock, the heavy epics, the prog, and the pop. That’s a big part of why IKS is my favorite album from them. I think they absolutely nailed the balance on that album. I still love or like most albums from this band, but I think many of their albums don’t strike the balance as well. NWFT is one of those albums for me. Still a good one though!

Tried listening to The Afterman albums again today after being so into this, man for whatever reason those are the one thing in this band’s discography that just don’t click for me. I even find stuff to like on YOTBR or TCBTS, but I just find both Afterman albums so boring.

opinions of the first 3 albums are unchanged, they're all timers. I do really like NWFT. The NWFT tour was the first time I saw them live outside of a warped tour performance. I think The Running Free was my ringtone for a while in 2007 hah

April 16, 2004. Good old Skate and Surf. Man those concerts were amazing, Coheed killed it. What a sick career they've had and continue to have.

First time I saw them was August 2005 at Webster Hall. It was a free taping for Fuse's show 7th Avenue Drop, but to my surprise they did a full 80 minute set and had Thursday do an opening set.
Then again in 2008 at Bamboozle, in 2013 opening for Alice in Chains, and 2021 at Riot Fest.

Really obsessed with this album, may roll solo and catch them again next month at Forest Hills Stadium.

Exact same! We talked to both Josh and Travis when they came out of their bus because we went behind the venue to try and catch them. We then went into the steakhouse place in the same parking lot and Mic was at the bar with a girl watching baseball and he invited us to sit down and talk with him. Cool guy, shame about what happened.

    No Fun. Not Ever.

I saw them at Warped Tour in 2004 in Detroit I wanna say? Still smaller stage and I don't remember much of their set. I do remember Fall Out Boy played pretty close to them and they had issues with their barricade falling down or something.

Pretty jealous of you all to get to see them early on. My first time was 2012 with Pianos Become the Teeth and Moving Mountains before Ascension came out.

just remembered how jarring the album version of mother superior was after watching/listening to this video nonstop.

My first time seeing them was for the ten-year anniversary tour of SSTB. Hell of a first time to see them

First time was either a Slipknot tour or Linkin Park tour. Either way it was a strange bill. They played with both bands I’m pretty sure just don’t remember which was first.

hate it when ppl say nwft isn’t prog. it’s prog metal as fuck

ga1 is a pop-punk album with prog bookends

YES. Ok I definitely remember Chiodos was there at the LP tour. I remember vividly the guitarist had no shoes on which I thought was odd.

I don’t really like or care to get into splitting hairs about genres, but I’ll say this. Listening to Animals As Leaders and NWFT are very very different experiences. I barely hear any prog in NWFT, nothing to even the degree of their earlier albums
