That last transition back into the chorus is nuts. This might be a surprise AOTY if the rest of the album is this good.

Listened once all the way through. I did NOT expect this album to be as good as it is. The first five songs in particular blew me away. Second half needs to sink in a bit more, but the closer is massive. This album has such a lovely, dark, and cohesive vibe. Reminds me of the same soundscape Vexes was playing with on their double album released last year. It's hard to articulate.

Yeah this is amazing, AOTY tier stuff, which I didn't expect at all. Like taking the core DE/DS electronic sound and blasting off into dream pop psychedelia. Laissez-Faire is unreal, maybe their best track.

We reach for the longest shadow

Never heard of this band, listening now since I see a lot of y'all in threads for bands I like.

EDIT: Not sure if the Teenage Wrist-like vocals are working for me (it was probably the other way around, haha) but there are some instrumental moments that are definitely working. I like the spacey Failure/Hum vibes, and even a little Deftones in there. Soundscape is great.

  16. This is one of the best songs I've heard this year, like wow. I don't think I've listened to this band in a dozen years so I seriously have to revisit everything they've done. This kind of spacey, proggy stuff is totally my catnip.

Make sure to check out The Rescue LP in that case. Pretty much the consensus fan favorite back in the day, but kinda lo-fi production, so the vox aren't anywhere near as slick and up front as the new one.

I'm obsessed with this. The dynamics, the transitions, the way each song feels like its own journey. I feel like it takes the best bits from Hopesfall, Hum, Failure, Mae, I even get Deftones vibes with the specific juxtaposition of heavy and lush/dreamy sounds... yet it still sounds unique to my ears. Such a superb body of work.

Wild how they weren't on my radar at all and they dropped an AOTY contender just one month before the year comes to an end.

crazy how good this is after a long hiatus. perfect mix of everything they've done. This one caught me by surprise.

So glad this exists. But also, watching bands that were hugely overlooked a generation ago come back with killer material just so they can get overlooked even more is always rough.

I’m really enjoying this album. I keep returning to it. I’m particularly liking “Laissez-Faire”, “A Hush…”, and the title track. I’m getting a lot of softer Hopesfall and old Dredg vibes. Perfect for winter imo.

Yeah, I'm feeling that vibe and also a ton of Mew. Anyone who loved Glass Handed Kites and their other mid-career stuff has to find something to love here.

Just bumping this because I love this album. I keep gravitating back towards these songs. There’s something really special about the songwriting. Just when you think you have a song figured out, the band throws a little tasteful curveball in there.

These slight touches add a lot of depth to a sound that seems to be a dying breed.

Months later and I still can’t stop listening to this. My favourite album in a long, long time.
