Yeah I’ve mostly seen the criticism of their aesthetics/cosplay, ‘this band is becoming a meme’, ‘they would have spoken out about bands doing what they’re doing years ago’ sort of stuff. A lot of it is delayed backlash from hardcore kids about them getting bigger and leaving the scene, which is inevitable. I personally think Underneath copped a disproportionate level of criticism for being ‘radio rock’, imo Bleeding in the Blur was an equally if not more accessible/radio friendly song but everyone’s cool with it because it’s an absolute banger. From the two songs I’ve heard it sounds like they’re taking more risks on this record when they could have easily made Forever 2.0 with a few more melodic tracks and blown up even more. Keen to hear the rest of the album to see where they take it.
Feel like we should be getting another single here right? Been jamming Swallowing the Rabbit Whole a ton lately, total ripper of a track. The mixing is also sounding better to my ears of late, but I also haven't been listening to the Kurt produced stuff at all of late, which might be why lol
I wish I liked this band more. Nothing musically has done it for me post-name change and the self-seriousness definitely didn't help.
Sulfur Surrounding just played on BBC radio 1. Another one that was a bit more rock oriented but it was sick.
I love how they incorporate lyrics/ideas from past songs in their discography to newer songs, really makes it feel like a Code Orange-universe of sorts hehe (COU? Sure). Swallowing is still probably my fav of the three but they're still 3/3 for me and I'm so hyped for the album
