they did such a good job instructing and teaching the crowd too, minus the few people that ate shit stage diving because people didn’t know they were supposed to catch them. They made heavy music fans proud tonight. That’s how you get new big time heavy headliners. Which is something we have been missing the last 10-12 years and why every fest is headlined by the same 20 bands.
Whilst I don't know Frank personally nor am I a die hard fan, this whole attitude seems very out of character for him?
He should just pull out of weekend two and see if they can get Sza to take his spot. The blatant disrespect for his fan base is insane. If he's truly strill grieving his brother after 3yrs it's probably best he continues his hiatus until he feels ready to perform again (if he wants to).
IDK if a pop or hip-hop artist would be willing to do it on such short notice. SO I went with bands and thought mCR could do it quickly since their production was already bare bones by 2022/23 standards.
Calvin Harris could probably be moved from Saturday to Sunday with minimal effort, if I had to guess.
There was a rumor that they had SZA on standby in case Frank dropped. No idea how true that actually was, though.
It really is a bummer. He's so talented, but you gotta wonder if he's burned the last bits of goodwill he had. I mean since 2020 all it's been is jokes about "will he even show up". I really believed he would pull it off, but it sounds like not so much. If his next album doesn't fully deliver he's going to be done.
the only good answer for a replacement should be a Fred Again x Four Tet x Skrillex set but god already hates me so that will never happen
It is funny to read how music publications try to defend the performance...I thought his paragraph from ConsequenceofSound is an excellent example of spin "It was far from a perfect performance, but it was certainly memorable. Elusive and enigmatic, forward-thinking and challenging, the set was a perfect representation of Ocean himself, and his often willingness to push the norms of live performance."
