I want 20 more cloverfield movies. The first is an all time favorite for me even though I acknowledge 10CL as "better". The first one is just such a fun, tight (more movies need to be 1hr 20mins) unique take on a monster movie.
I still love when I saw it in theaters the first time. Couldn't find anyone to go with, so I just said "Fuck it" and went on my own. Smoked in the parking lot before I went in and was just in joy the whole movie. Best part was that it had started snowing during the movie, so when I walked outside, it was just this cold slow heavy snowfall going. Felt like a nuclear apocalypse. Man, I need to watch it again haha.
The ending doesn't really have anything to do with the first movie. Doesn't bother me though. 10CL is honestly so much better than the first
The alien ship? That didn't have anything to do with the Godzilla-esque "monster from the deep." I fail to see how 10CL and Cloverfield are related, other than people just telling us that they're in the same universe.
I mean, use your imagination. It's not hard to believe that both monsters came from the same alien invasion.
By that logic I can deduce that Cloverfield and Godzilla are related since they originated from the ocean.
I interpreted as that monster was perhaps a first deploy thing for them to destroy our main military/major cities. I could be wrong, but it's left up to interpretation.
Also we don't know if that monster from the first was killed at the end. I'm assuming with what we saw/have heard in 10CL that the monster is alive, and still wreaking havoc all over the country.
I mean they compared the series to Twilight Zone. It's an anthology of loosely related, unconnected content
If anyone follows the ARG, which I've only read tidbits about, there are connections. Regarding the films on their own, it just seems to be a spiritual connection. Either way, I can't wait for more.
If I remember correctly, there was a site that listed John Goodman's character used to work for the same company who's satellite fell into the ocean at the end of Cloverfield that allegedly woke up that movie's monster.
Some more insight into the next Cloverfield movie coming out in October. Exclusive: ‘God Particle’ Writer Oren Uziel on How the Film Became a Cloverfield Movie
i wish they would just say that these movies exist completely in the same universe and modified the scripts/monsters to reflect that. This has been the plan all along. I remember when Cloverfield first came out there was an interview where someone (Matt Reeves?) discussed that a sequel would either be the guy Hud films that is also filming, or, something similar to "generals in a situation room planning the war". Like, strictly focusing on the government/authority reaction to an alien invasion or something with incredibly minimal "on the ground" stuff (like Independence Day for example). tbh that's a movie I wanna see so if anyone has any recommendations, please.
I did read through the original script for God's Particle, so I'm pretty interested in finding out how they switched things up for the "Cloverfield" factor. Either way, it was quite intriguing and sounds like it could be good.
I love that they're doing this. Oren has the right idea. It's getting harder and harder for original movies to be made, so if this is what it takes, I'm all for it
Recently I was on the Upcoming Movies page on IMDB and saw a Cloverfield title coming up. Didn't they wait til the last minute to start marketing 10 Cloverfield Lane?
Re: a monster movie that focuses on the government/authority reaction, Shin Godzilla does this really really well, so I’d check that out if you haven’t.
