That’s what’s weird tho. I thought this WAS supposed to be a true sequel from the beginning? Though it definitely did seem tacked on.
I liked this, it was fun. And I’ll take any little bit of lore I can get from this universe lol, don’t care at all if they shoehorn it into other movies. Hell, if Netflix has the rights to the whole series now and wants to release two of these a year every year I would happily consume them all.
Nobody is saying it's not a business decision, but it's what they're doing. It's a novel concept that's never been done before, which is in and of itself creative. Also, I mean, calling this a "belligerently dull slog" is pretty far off base, it was a pretty briskly-paced film that didn't meander at all. Whether it was effective for you or not is one thing but it doesn't drag and isn't even really that long either.
I had no idea this was a thing, but I enjoyed Cloverfield and loved 10 Cloverfield Lane so it was a nice surprise to see this appear in Netflix. But it was really not good. Great cast, interesting premise, but just not well done at all. I was on board for the first few minutes and the title sequence (the title sequence was the best part of this. It set a great tone), but then it fell apart quickly with the stereotypical, "hey this guy is Russian! That means he's gonna be bad!" immediately after.
Damn, this thread took quite the turn, huh. Oh well. Hey, at least a bunch of people know they probably shouldn't bother watching Overlord now, save the two hours instead.
It was fine, yet forgettable. I don’t think there’s any big intentions here with the franchise other than to experiment with different movies in the same universe. Don’t know why anyone would expect any different.
Even more creative, however, is calling what they're doing creative. It's literally just unabashedly bullshitting people. It's the equivalent of cheating off someone's test at school, except the kid you're cheating off is kind of an idiot and you're not even trying to conceal the fact that you're cheating off them.
It's a creative idea, I don't know what else to tell you. Like, just from the sense of it being something that's never been done before, it is literally creative.
It was like a bad episode of Black Mirror. There wasn't a twist, everything that happened was super telegraphed "Oh ho let me tell you this PURE OXYGEN I'm breathing is great" oh that dude is definitely going to explode (minutes later he explodes). Oh this lady in the wall looks incredibly sketchy all the time (she then turns on everyone)
I loved it, fun all the way through I didn't see the trailer beforehand, in my head I treated it like an unrelated movie with no connection to the first Cloverfield. Which is how I treated the second one, which was much more of a psychological thriller anyway. Trailer is way misleading, these are like not connected at all and that's super clear.
