Same. Have also tried again recently, and it hasn't changed. Whether First Temple or Penance ranks higher to me depends on the day. More of a 1a, 1b situation.
Yeah, First Temple for sure is the best but Pink Lemonade had it's moments. "Happy Days" is a damn good song despite sounding like it's a completely different band haha
Aside from the title track, Seeds of Gold is the best track on Pink Lemonade IMO It’s also a damn shame they left off The Impeccable Beast as it was the perfect mix between old and new.
The main comment they replied to was someone pretty earnestly wishing they liked Pink Lemonade as much as the other two but still just can't get into it. They responded with a sentiment like "We hope to win you back with the next one" so I'm choosing to read way too much into that and that they'll shift back to post-hardcore and away from the psychedelic.
A nice mix between psychedelic rock and their old sound would be tight. I doubt they’ll fully go back to their First Temple sound but if they did? Incredible.
has any post-hardcore release stood the test of time like First Temple? That came out 15 years ago this summer. Still sounds fresh.
Same. I get that Pink Lemonade isn’t the album a lot of fans wanted, but I still think a lot those songs hold up very well. I think a more focused version of what they were going for as you said could be really cool.
Crime In Stereo's I Was Trying... still sounds like it's from the future Everything Thursday wrote (FC on) holds up too EDIT: Sweet#hart is such a banger all these years later.
So keen for my copy of Penance to show up! Kept forgetting I’d ordered it back in December, haha. (If they ever wanted to do a Church Of The Technochrist 7” with The Impeccable Beast on the b-side... *cough cough*) Been dipping back into First Temple pretty hard recently, good lord this album smokes! Arecibo Message my go-to hype track atm. I also tried Pink Lemonade again, but it’s just... not for me. Appreciate the ambitious concept and experimentation they went for and salute the creativity but even after all these years it’s just never hit the spot where everything clicks. A tough but rewarding record for those that can make sense of the beauty within, I suppose.
