Yeah this was... not good. I think I laughed twice? Both times were throwaway lines from cameos - Sedaris and Buteau specifically. Aaron very much hit the nail on its head by pointing out how this movie completely abandons the only thing that ever made Clerks I/II more than a series of crude dick jokes. Pretty solid performance from Dante when he finally blew up at Randall though, I’ll give him that. Choosing to follow it up with a mashup of clips from the first two movies to try drumming up some tears and then basically rolling credits was near-offensively lazy and cheap, but I guess so was a lot of the movie to begin with I will say, just because it’s been brought up a few times, the actor that plays Elias was only as bad as he ever was. However, Elias the increasingly ridiculous devil worshipping NFT enthusiast as a character was awful
Oh also big ups @btr for the heads up on no trailers. I’m usually on time but seeing this tonight was a last minute decision, and knowing there were no trailers factored into how quickly pulled the trigger. I laughed to myself at the various people walking in a few minutes late having missed the quite wild decision to open this movie with the entirety of The Black Parade lol
Ah, too bad to hear the middling reactions! I’m seeing it next month with Kevin Smith in attendance, so that’ll be a cool night regardless of what I think of the movie. There was a time about 7 years ago where Clerks III was the movie I was most looking to, like, in my life, but after Yoga Hosers and Reboot my excitement has definitely faded. I’m surprised to hear you guys say Elias is bad! I think he’s one of the best parts of Clerks II, a great performance in a movie featuring a lot of not great performances. Interested to see what he’s up to in this one
I watched Clerks 2 for the first time in a while and I have to say even that is pretty bad haha. Much worse than I remembered.
Holy shit, this movie is so all over the place that I fucking forgot it opened with that song in full lmao I texted my friends about it as it was happening
Is Red State the only decent film Kevin has made since the 90s? I remember Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back not delivering. It was just an overuse of fart and dick jokes. Chasing Amy, Dogma, Clerks I....those are his films that are memorable.
Red State, Clerks 2, and controversially, Tusk. But I'm an apologist and a (body) horror fan. I think Chasing Amy has aged worse than Clerks 2 lol.
Damn it started right at 7 for yall? I got there ar 6:50 and when 7PM hit, a fucking 30 minute time popped on the screen
Damn lol yeah started RIGHT at seven. I walked in two minutes late and missed opening credits or whatever
Showing was 7:05. At 7:04 a 30 minute countdown popped up and I was gonna flip out haha at 7:06 trailers for other Fathom events started. At 7:12 the movie started. also, did everyone stay for the brief commentary over the second half of the credits that describes an alternate ending? We also then had a behind the scenes video after the credits.
Interesting. I know someone mentioned that (maybe in this thread?) but I can't seem to find details anywhere.
It was the ending of the previous version of Clerks III that never got made. https://screenrant.com/clerks-3-movie-script-changes-details-kevin-smith/amp/
Yea, none of that is what Smith says during the credits. I’m not saying what you said didn’t happen, it’s just not what was said in this movie. Does Clerks 3 Have A Post-Credits Scene?
I think I’m just confused. I thought someone was asking what the source of the “theater shooting” stuff was, haha. Also, this movie was pretty bad.
Been a View Askew fan for 25 years and was pumped for this. Unfortunately it fell so flat right from the beginning scene. It had some heart through out and the ending with Dantes agreement was great acting, but every joke just felt forced. And Ellias was the highlight of Clerks 2 and should have not even been in the one. His story line was possibly the worse thing in a View Askew Universe movie. I would even rank Reboot over Clerks 3 to be honest.
there were certain scenes here that were a lot of fun (the audition scene, especially with the Telethon song) and the sedaris/long scene but yeah this wasn't good
