I never said there was? I was talking about the bare bones business of that band and responded to the previous poster saying it’s shitty if they ‘kick out Matt and bring Tom back’. I said Tom has a right to make that a condition of him ‘coming back’. Not that it was going to happen, but that he has the literal ability and business right to say that.
And one more time: I never said it was. and you still won’t explain what ‘not how this works’ means. Because business wise, it is. Which is literally all I’m referring to. Not to any inter personal happenings or conversations.
Inter personal happenings and conversations is how it works! Your made up Tom Has Majority and can decide everything contract is not.
Jason, a man co-founded a private company (50/50, or was later converted to 50/50 once Scott was fired). Never sold his ownership in this private company. Stepped away from the aforementioned private company. He still has financial interests, rights, and say in the private company whether he maintains an ‘active roll‘ or not. For a relevant example see: Lou Gramm and Foreigner.
And yet! I know the label the band is now signed to and know it was the one Travis wanted and not Tom! Sooooooo ... one more time! That's not how this works! Tom's not out here voiding shit and making all these calls like some weird shadow CEO. This legal thing you have in your head as how it has to play out and be, is not reality.
That’s a completely fair point! But we don’t know the language, concessions, or opportunities that Sony offered the band. Tom may have preferred another label or maybe just to maintain their agreement with BMG, I totally don’t know. Nor does anyone (besides the parties) know how hands on he has been or wants to be, up till this point. I was literally pointing out he has these rights, should he choose to exercise them and to what extent.
My god, I hate that I’ve now gone this long talking about Tom Delonge in 2022. I was responding to your initial post (before you edited and added to it, I believe? I’m doing multiple things at once, sorry if I misread it). I didn’t know they left Sony, so I was assuming you meant when they signed for Nine. I never said Tom was a ~shadow CEO~. Again, to reiterate. I am saying that he maintains rights in this band. And to what extent he chooses to exercise them is completely up to him. But to act like he’s just along for the ride at this point isn’t a true statement.
Tom Delonge may be part of the blink business, but at the moment, Feldy has been more involved with the band than Tom has (unless he’s working on things that haven’t been announced). Tom could say what he wants and make his demands, but it doesn’t mean anyone else is going to show up at the studio or take the stage with him.
So… what you’re saying is that instead of Tom deciding if Matt stays in the band, Tom’s ex-wife will choose?
I like to think Matt bought the publishing (it's almost definitely Hipgnosis, who's been buying up as many song rights as they can get)
