A week ago tonight's boston show wasn't sold out and there were so many floor tix on stubhub I thought I could get in for like $20 waiting for today. Appears that was a substantial miscalculation :(
Ended up making it tonight, great but strange show. Weird dynamic when you have a lot of the crowd there for the hits, but the songs that aren’t the hits are a completely different genre. I thought the Sling songs sounded absolutely fantastic live for the most part, but I feel a little bad for her that her new stuff doesn’t seem to have resonated with her audience as much. I suppose that’s the case with many bands, just exacerbated when it’s comparing symphonic pop without choruses in some cases to songs she wrote at what 16?
interesting, I thought it was a lil more muted but I thought they got a good reception overall. The duet with Arlo Parks was great
yeah what a highlight, that was awesome. I thought partridge was also insanely good. general take on crowd reaction may be influenced by being behind a very annoying drunk group shouting about it being overdue for a banger
She is postponing some of the next few shows. Apparently she’s been fed up with people talking during her set, on their phone, and asking for her to play Immunity songs when she’s playing songs from Sling. She tried to address this at the last show: https://www.reddit.com/r/clairo/comments/t6pqwl/videos_of_claire_asking_people_stop_yelling_and/ and then posted this to her story: Someone also yelled “you’re so hot” after she played Blouse which made her uncomfortable.
1000% the pit at TBS/JEW last October was the worst one I've ever been in and I've been to a lot of shows more punk than that one haha
I saw Action Bronson and Earl Sweatshirt the other night and it was one of the best crowds I’ve ever seen at a show. But I saw Manchester Orchestra and Foxing a couple nights before and it was absolutely one of the worst
I've only been to... 2? shows since covid, so I can't speak to the now of it, but I've been going to shows in LA for 10+ years and LA has shitty crowds 90% of the time
Also I can’t blame anyone for not wanting to hear songs from Sling but come on, you bought tickets to the Sling tour
This is how I've felt for eternity lol. Like sorry they haven't played The Middle yet, but this is the Damage tour
wouldn’t surprise me if artists are finding that crowds are worse now. as someone who works in the service industry and whose peer group largely consists of other ppl in the service industry, p much all of us can attest that customers have been much worse over the pandemic. anyway, those videos are fucking depressing. this album is good and apparently way out of the depth of most of her fanbase, clamoring for the basic bedroom pop shit she made as a literal kid. there’s a lot of maturity in this record from a songwriting standpoint and I feel like unfortunately this is an album destined to not find its proper audience. if it ain’t your thing, it ain’t your thing, maybe you think it’s boring or whatever…. don’t go to a show on the tour that is specifically in promotion for the album you don’t like then! and if you do, certainly don’t fucking heckle and catcall and harass the artist, bc it is entirely a YOU problem.
Which is totally fine, but as mentioned above if you go to this tour and were expecting a bunch of Immunity/pre-Sling songs to be played, well congratulations, you played yourself.
