Yea, I've been listening to this several times a week for the last month and it keeps getting better. I really love the title track and Without Warning. The only song I'm not really feeling in the closer. Bow Down To Love is so good, but Begin Again falls flat for me. Still, this is his best solo stuff in a while and I enjoyed the last couple of records as well.
A few somewhat far pictures from last night Toronto show. I've been a fan of AOF and City and Colour for over 20 years now (as I used to see both doing the local circuit of southern Ontario many times) and I remember seeing Dallas doing the whole solo thing in the beginning. It's amazing to see how far he's become as a musician and as a person. I do miss seeing both bands in smaller settings. But you get a sense of pride knowing that a Canadian band has amassed such a following in their home country and beyond! Katie Tupper (who I highly recommend. If you're into the whole Neo Soul thing.) and the legend himself Ben Harper opened the show. C&C did 20 songs and had Ben Harper do slide guitar during The Grand Optimist which was cool to see Dallas fanboying over Ben and vice versa! (last two shots with all the lighters and flashlights was when he asked the crowd to break them out for Hello, I'm in Delaware)
Looks impressive, I'm also happy for City and Colour to grow bigger and bigger, though still lots of my friends don't know who they are. I've seen Dallas in C&C and AOF quite a lot of times altogether too, but I'm beyond excited to finally go see C&C in Poland this year. Bought the tickets the instant I saw them (btw. pretty cheap as well!)
I ended up skipping this one because I was extremely tired after work and had to get up very early the next morning, but also because I sold my $8 lawn tickets for $90 a piece lol
Hahah score! How'd you snag such cheap lawns? I was up at 3am on Friday and got home by 1am. Myself and my wife parked at Mimico GO station. Figured with the CNE and an Argos game at BMO Field finding parking and leaving the lakeshore was going to be a shit show. However the GO station was rammed as well. I was dumb and signed up to go into work for 4 hours at 6:30AM on Saturday. So needless to say I'm still kinda tired!
Oh man, sounds like an exhausting day! Does sound like it was worth it though haha Back when tickets first went on sale, Indie88 did a special presale of like maybe 50-100 tickets where you could get lawns for $8 and I was lucky enough to score a pair not even knowing for sure at the time if I would go. When I decided I didn’t feel up to it, I just wanted to get my money back but saw lawns were going for such high prices cause it was sold out I was like… well if everyone else is doing it lol
From email newsletter: When we released Sometimes 20 years ago, I couldn't imagine the journey it would take me on; more importantly, how deeply the songs would resonate with so many people. This night will be a celebration of that connection and for everyone who has spent time with this record over the years. These songs became yours a long time ago. As always, thank you for listening.” ~ Dallas Join us as we celebrate Sometimes on Friday July 20 at Budweiser Stage in Toronto.
