One of my favourite sets of the weekend, I feel like this band really levelled up live after LIYGW. Not looking forward to seeing my dorky stagedives during the Touché and Drug Church sets, mind hahahaha.
I love the direction this band has gone in and I’m hoping they continue down it for the next LP they’re currently writing.
That’s good news. Mat posted the other week they were “going to disappear for a good while” after these last few shows, so I wasn’t sure if that meant break for a bit or just to write / record
In their discord channel, he confirmed they were writing/demoing for their next LP so hopefully we get something by Spring of next year?
Those are some ace b-sides. I like them more than some of the album tracks but can see why they were left off
Damn, I understand that these two new tracks don’t vibe the best with the record - but I wish they added them anyways. It could have worked with the right track listing.
Perhaps Definitely doesn’t gel all too well with the track list but I could see A Passing Thing fitting in as the second track after Death Dance. Not sure where to place I Don’t Love You though.
Revisiting EIGTH a lot recently and I truly do love it. It’s my favorite from the band by a long mile with everything I love about full lengths like transitions and great dynamics, while even touching my more niche interests like the eerie/moody tones and mysterious lyrics. The album has such a good sense of flow and is self-referential in a lot of the outros. Stain has this crazy pay off every single time and I adore where it’s placed in the record. However, I have to say that there’s something about it that I can’t pinpoint that feels off. I think it’s a little too subdued or even flat (sound wise, not the musical note kind). I think if songs like Numb Yourself and Ring of Chain had more punch to them sonically, this record would be revered. I can feel like theyre supposed to contrast with the softer moments like Heaviside but it doesn’t come off that way. Even when they’re wailing in Ten, it seems almost muted at times. If the production was a bit more full, this would be an all timer for sure. I still adore it for what it’s trying to do though. I wish there were more records that sounded like this bc it scratches that itch every time.
I think Yip improved his dynamics a lot since this came out. Even on the next Citizen album it was much better. Give this album the production of that one or the last MWY album and I think you're right. The wall of sound worked well for what B&C wanted to do for TTWTWM but it did a little disservice to this album for sure.
For sure. This album with mwY’s untitled’s production would’ve been absolutely unreal. I really want Citizen to revisit this sound again at some point. Jet and Death Dance have such intensity to them, and they remind me so much of EIGTH, but I miss the unsettling undertones lol Also, bring the transitions back!!!
