went into this pretty skeptical after their last lp but I came out the other side pleasantly surprised, liking this a lot
yeah its pretty much all ive listened to this week. after thinking it was just totally meh, I kept trying and its grown so much to the point where I ended up buying it haha
+1. I like it enough but it’s a step down from everything else they’ve done, especially following LIYGW which I thought was incredible. There’s some great songs in here but overall I’m a bit whelmed.
Glass World was the first album of theirs I fell in love with vs. just casually enjoyed, and I had no expectation that this album would match the excitement that one made me feel. It took several listens to adjust to the pacing on this one, but it’s every bit as good, if not better. Not a wasted moment, and super easy to listen to twice or more in a row. They’re digging deeper into their niche and the results are great.
finally got around to this unfortunately, not really big on it on my first listen. they seem to have expanded more on the section of the last record that i wasn’t too big on (winter buds / edge of the world). i’m also not that big of a fan of the lyrical shift from the past two records; it feels a lot more “conversational”, or at least more “casual”, than how the lyrics were delivered in the first three entries, and it’s not really sticking with me. for reference, i absolutely adore this band’s darker material, EIGTH being my favorite of theirs, and i loved tracks like death dance from the last record, but i don’t think the lighter (fun?) sound is grabbing me unfortunately wish them the best though! they seem very proud of this record and the reception here has been positive. they’re probably just not for me anymore. will probably give another attempt down the line (:
I surprisingly came around to this after not really liking it on release day and not being too impressed with the singles. I go back to it a lot while driving and working.
they evolve with every album and and every album is a grower. Loving this album; will def be in my top 5 this year
I ran it into the ground but today feels like a good day to revisit it. And for taco bell if I'm being honest.
I interviewed Mat before Citizen play in Australia next month (!!!) Citizen: ‘We Could Pander, And We Know That. But It Wouldn’t Make Us Happy’ | theMusic.com.au | Australian music news, gig guide, music reviews
This album flat out slaps. Absolutely love it. I also like that they pick a sound for each album and commit to it making very cohesive listening experiences. Despite that, it doesn't feel samesy - all songs go together, but they don't blend. I've listened back to front 3 times now in the past 48 hours. If You're Lonely / Needs / Dogs / Options are all up there for my faves at the moment. As If I needed another reason to see TBS, but can't wait to see these guys as part of that show. EDIT: I'll need to go back through their catalogue as I'm honestly only really familiar with the last 3 albums (besides some of the 'bigger' tracks off the first few and I don't think I know a single song off of Young states). As you please and on have been full album experiences for me and all highly loved.
Yeah, this is my favorite album of theirs by a mile. I think this sound suits them. Their older stuff is fine, but never really grabbed me other than a few singles.
