Yeah, I know, the score, but it's cool this even got Pitchfork coverage. Citizen: As You Please Album Review | Pitchfork EDIT: review reads better than a 6.5. His main complaint is that the parts that should "pop" just exist in the same space as the rest of the instruments. He thinks ITMOIA is the best song, and I can get down with that.
Which is pretty much the same complaint I think most people in this thread have, so I'd say that's fair.
yea respectable review.. I'd probably give the album an 8 on my scare which is about a 6.5 on pitchfork scale... I really wanted this to be a 9 for me it just isn't... I had to turn it off two days ago listening to it, I just wanted to put something else on.. the idea that it is a fatiguing listen is a good point.. my ears feel shot when I'm listening to it but when I turn it down I feel like it feels really flat. Songwriting is there but they missed with the production on this one... I hate saying bad stuff about bands I like ha.
I don't feel as harshly about the album as some of you (and even harsh here isn't really that harsh). I get the complaints though. It's the most enjoyable release by them for me by far though, so I'm happy.
I have really enjoyed the album so far...but also really agree that production makes the album sound like one long song. Prob the first thing from Yip since Balance's second LP that has actually hindered my listening experience.
Anybody else get that red mixtape of 'curiosities'? Tracked down a tape player and Im going to listen tonight.
I really do love this album, so many highlights. "Discrete Routine" and "Control" are in my top 5 best songs from them, ever
Its only 3 tracks but its pretty cool. More electronic versions of Discrete Routine, World and You Are a Star. There are some bits of other songs in between as well but they are pretty short. Its cool, but for some reason I was expecting a bside or two.
Really coming around on this record. I think I put too many expectations on it before. Hype got to me.
Throw me in that bucket too. I had no desire to listen to this for a few weeks and then World came on a couple days ago and I was way into it
Loving this album more and more with each listen. Songs will just stick with me all day. Favorites off album will constantly change but have a deep love for As You Please, Ugly Luck, Control, and Flowerchild Speaking of, anyone going to a show on this tour and can pick me up a tour-copy of the vinyl record with the alternate cover? I passed on it during the Chicago show and opted for the box set. Though I love the box - I'm feeling a bit of remorse - any help would be amazing and I can send you the cash+shipping on quickpay/$cashapp. Pm me! Thanks :)
I think I’ve listened to enough to finally say that i don’t like Medicine. Not sure what it is but it feels a little paint by numbers for them.
