That’s probably my favorite song on here. How many times did you listen to it? It’s been growing on me quite a bit over the last week or so.
I've run through the album twice now, and nothing is standing out much to me honestly. The two songs I listed were the only two that really stood out to me and I can actually remember enjoying
I don’t know if the album is going to push this bands into another tier for me, which was something I had really hoped it would.
It's so weird but I feel like almost every week something has come out that completely throws my running list for the year into chaos. This week it's Citizen jumping directly into the top five right off the bat I think. It's crazy. This has been an unbelievably strong year for music.
guys when you are done listening to this.. everyone give that Blis LP a play, its way rawer but super dynamic I think a lot of people will like it here. going to post this in the Brand New thread too
you said you wanted them to combine elements from the last two LPs they are certainly doing that here.
they have to combine elements and raise their songwriting at the same time. not going to get much out of it vocally or lyrically so it needs to be catchy, musically interesting, and unique to really care
I think that this album is as far as they can go to push their sound without completely reverse engineering what they’ve done so far. I really like the album but hope they really evolve after this album, I think they’ve taken this style as far as they can here
I'm still deciding how I feel on this overall. When it's catchy, I love it (Jet, ITMOIA, Medicine) and some of the really different sounding songs are cool, but some of the more straight forward songs are losing me. I feel like World and Fever Days shouldn't be back to back with the two most simple choruses on the record. Control is cool though, has anyone mentioned that quick metal sounding riff in the bridge? I LOVED that.
I Forgive No One has some serious Manchester vibes with that howl sounding noise in the chorus. very reminiscent of The Moth.
yea, I thought the same thing ha. Funny thing is, there's no way Manchester could have influenced that since it wasn't out yet. I sort of see both of those parts as pulling from 90s Alt Rock bands that used to do stuff like that a lot.
In the Middle of it All is great, that chorus kills. There's a few on here that I don't enjoy too much, but this is really damn good. There's so much music out now I'm trying not to bounce around too much so I can give everything a fair shake but it's damn hard.
I have never paid this band much attention but I am loving this album. 3 songs in and every song has hit the spot so far. How does it compare to their back catalogue? If I end leaving this album impressed, where do I go next?
Youth is catchy, Everyone Is Going to Heaven is more weird and experimental, so it depends on which side of this LP you enjoy more.
I listened to this the other day when I got my vinyl copy in and I liked it a lot after one listen. I think I might like the first half a bit more right now but we'll see after I really dive into it. I definitely enjoy this way more than EIGTH and I feel like its a much more accessible release for new fans. I also think this is comparable to Mat's solo record in a lot of ways. Its essentially a full band version of that record which is a good thing for me.
I agree. This seems like Citizen distilled as well as they could be. I really like it for that reason, but they'll have to be careful going forward. And yes I know it has been less than one day since this officially came out, haha.
