Speaking of Along the Shadow, Circa put out "Computer Crasher" on the Patreon which was a dead-end VW cycle b-side that didn't even make it out of the creek house pre-production phase. It has some of the vocal parts that later showed up in Illusion and Control. Man, Along the Shadow was pretty damn good. I listened to it a ton when it first came out, but much like TTN, I rarely go back to it now. I have to really prepare myself for the pretty significant bite of its production. It can be hard to make it all the way through in one sitting because of its heaviness and length. I must be getting old as fuck lol. Teenage me would slap the shit out of current me for that sentence. Some serious earworms on that one though and some of ant's absolute best hooks. Definitely a super strong showing from everyone on that record, and lyrically very dark and cathartic subject matter.
The stretch of songs 9-13 is actually insane now that I think about it. Talk about gnarly, brooding deep-cuts.
Circa and Saosin have become the yin and yang of AG's output and the world needs both. Circa continually takes big risks stylistically, whereas Saosin is just really damn good at what it does. Would hate to see it completely abandoned, even though that sadly seems like it could happen.
It might simply be a matter of his previous vocal stylings having become too strenuous to consistently perform, but reading this I wonder now how much this indescribably stupid bullshit had to do with his shift away from it after OLG/BSN. This rage welling inside me demands satiation.
What I'd give for new TSOAF as well! ;u but Circa will always be my number one within all of Anthony's outputs, so glad we finally got this EP - listening to it a few times every single day!
yeh new tsoaf would rule couldnt care less about saosin i think ant confirmed a couple times in the last 5 yrs or so that tsoaf has worked on some new material
Along the Shadow had some awesome tracks but some boring ones too. Definitely good enough to make me excited if they decided to record more stuff.
Hey everyone! Our friend Beau made a really cool process video where he breaks down and recreates Imposter Syndrome. Check out his fulll video here.
Officially love this EP. Took awhile but starting to really get into some of the background effects in each song. The vengeful god portion of sleep well is a journey.
yeah there’s a lot of intricate subtle layers in these tracks that are a pleasure to pick apart and listen for. it’s every bit as complex and interesting as the proggiest circa shit just in a new, subdued way that serves the songwriting first and foremost. every time I listen the hairs on the back of my neck are standing straight up just from how god damn impressive it all is in every respect. the songwriting, Anthony’s singing and everyone else’s performances, the production, the fluidity, it’s all just awe inspiring
This continues to grow on me, but for the second straight Circa release the consensus top track is the one I could take or leave. My highlights are Even Better, the second half of Drift, and most of OLS.
Sleep Well Our Last Shot Even Better Drift Imposter Gone for Good is prob my current rank. Gone for Good is the only one that reminds me of an AG solo track. So while not bad, just does the least for me.
Mine is Our Last Shot at the moment. Gone for Good is the only one that’s not clicking for me though.
