yeah lol @sophos34 would know better than me but there's a reason most records have high pass shelves and stuff, those frequencies get real icepick-y real quick
Agree to disagree... I mean, it's easy enough for me to EQ +3 dB on everything above 2kHZ if I'm listening at home, but the record as-is sounds dead and flat to me. Drums on every other record, even OLG, come through with far more punch.
I can't speak to the technical aspects of any of this shit....but Descensus absolutely destroys my ears. It's completely un-listenable to me.
decensus to me sounds like a bad rip or something, very flat. violent waves has the opposite problem, too much space and things just kinda floating around in the mix. the amulet sounds fine, which is great comparatively, to my ears. but its subjective and none of our ears hear anything in the same way as one another, and we all listen on different speakers and headphones and all that jazz so its unsurprising to me people have different opinions on production quality and all are valid, i cant sit here and say youre hearing something wrong just because i perceive something differently than you do. now if you have a more production minded ear and approach to listening you will pick up on nuances and things others might not pick up on
and the tones they got on descensus are alot different too before we even talk about the production job. not a fan of the drums on that one iirc.
Yep, the songwriting on Descensus rules, but the production/mixing definitely brings it down a notch for me, and I generally love Yip. He gave that album the Floral Green/The Things We Think We're Missing treatment, and that wasn't the right sound for Circa, IMO. They learned and nailed it with The Amulet for me though. Great post @sophos34, people definitely hear things differently, especially bringing environment into the equation.
looks like a new EP is coming on the 22nd of October named 'A Dream About Love' 1 Imposter Syndrome 2 Drift 3 Our Last Shot 4 Even Better 5 Gone for Good 6 Sleep well
Edit: first song is up in NZ streaming services. They also appear to have signed to Rise Records(??) in some capacity.
pole: would you rather wait 6 more months for a full length, or settle for an ep in a couple weeks? "Like" for being cool waiting, "Go fuck yourself" if you want it now. jk - eps just aren't my thing ha
I'd be cool waiting for a full length instead of an EP now but that also assumes a full length is even coming anymore if they're putting out an EP
Big if true I would guess LP in 2022 and this EP is just some song ideas that were a bit more "out there" and didn't fit with the direction of the album. Totally making that up just the vibe I get from listening to all their patreon stuff.
then again, anthony was part of what is arguably the greatest ep in the entire scene almost 20 years ago...
That's kinda what I'm hoping. Especially if this is more of the electronic stuff people have been mentioning they've been doing on Patreon. It sounds like they have a lot of music written anyway.
Source for EP and tracklist? Not seeing anything on their SM or even Patreon. Six full studio tracks ahead of a presumably separate 2022 LP would be wild.
