Aw man, as much as I love Circa I consider this a generic Circa album... though I do dig lustration.. .

I'm really pessimistic on getting Saosin anytime soon, based on following Beau's updates and Anthony always making it clear that it's the second priority. Late next year would be a pleasant surprise.

its way better produced than the two albums that came before it

thats fine, but i would entirely disagree. especially when it comes to the one-two punch of flesh & bone and the amulet, two of the most stunning songs in their discography and, bar none, two of my favorite songs of all time. especially flesh and bone.

I really liked the Amulet vibe, and the two B-sides really are legendary. But real talk... I still go back to the first two records 100x more. I love and respect these guys but have more hope that I'll be super into new Saosin than the artistic direction they've drifted toward over time.

i go back to the amulet, blue sky noise, and on letting go in equal measure, which is prettttttty fucking often. juturna every now and then too, but i never listen to violent waves or descensus

I admit that's true for me too, but goddamn... the material there was just so dense and exhilarating compared to everything after.

The Amulet is surely as close as they'll ever get to reprising the Juturna vibe for most of an LP, yet it's this subdued version that doesn't grab me the same way. Take "The Hex"... it's like the magic is back for a moment in the verses, but then they noodle aimlessly in the chorus and lose me completely.

Maybe age and personal circumstances have simply changed their approach and what they value creatively. I respect it but can't claim it excites me as much.

like i said, i think "the amulet" and "indra's net" are every bit as exhilarating as anything youll find on the first two albums, probably even more so when it comes to the latter, and even though its not a huge soaring moment the subtlety of "flesh and bone" makes it hit that much harder when you dive into the lyrics and how the song progresses. im not kidding when i say flesh and bone is one of my favorite songs of all time, maybe top 3, it got me through a lot of shit and im talking about 2021, i listened to that song on repeat every time i went to rehab this year, which was a lot.

Indra's Net is phenomenal and is probably my favorite thing they've recorded post-OLG, full stop. I could take or leave the others. My guess is it's partially they've evolved in their tastes toward more F&B-type material that I'm personally just not into, and partially that when they do the more ambitious layered tracks, it's harder to pack them with amazing melodic ideas and not repeat the early stuff.

Indra's Net never really clicked with me until today. That opening riff always felt very uninspired, but the rest of the song is pure gold.

funny, it's violent waves and descensus i've come back to the most recently. there's really a ton to offer on those albums

The Amulet sits at no.3 for me behind the first two albums. I still have a lot of love for BSN but I find this to be the more consistent listen.

It's funny to me that this started as a convo about production, I would've said amulet is the best sounding album in their discog

    Ugh, I hate America. Supporter

I think Anthony's voice sounds best on Amulet. And I think the rest of hte production fits nicely behind his voice. Flesh and Bone is my favorite song of theirs in a long time. I've listened to it more than probably any other Circa song. I would put Amulet in maybe my #2 spot now behind Juturna. Used to be OLG but over the years my taste has changed a little and OLG doesn't do for me what it once did.

EDIT: I should also say that I listen to his last 2 solo albums more than any of Circa/or the newest Saosin LP.

The Amulet is only behind OLG for me. Huge come back after not really digging Violent Waves or Descensus much at all.
