It's an incredibly atmospheric, cohesive album in its own right, but the atmosphere itself is somewhat different. Maybe one way of saying it is that Juturna feels like late fall or winter, whereas OLG feels like spring.
I don't get the same feeling when I listen to those two albums, so I disagree. I do love OLG tho. EDIT: that's not to say it doesn't have atmosphere, just not the same one I get from Juturna.
I do listen to songs from Juturna randomly throughout the year, but as @christsizedshoes said, fall/winter is when that album really shines and gets put in heavy rotation for me. I genuinely don't know if I can think of a better winter album, aside from TCD.
Juturna is a bit more atmospheric than olg but both of them have great atmosphere and songwriting so its gravy
I'm not disputing that, but it just doesn't draw me in the way Juturna does. I think both albums are great and I totally get why people would prefer OLG, but ultimately my preference lies with Juturna.
I think OLG is def more there's a lot more space and depth to the mix. It's one of the only times I think mcternan has actually accomplished that (he did on juturuna too to be sure), in addition to the graduates two records
Seeing Circa next weekend at Chain Fest in Anaheim... honestly that festival is the show I've been looking forward to the most this year by a long shot.
Totally agree with the Juturna description. It helps that I first heard it on a cold-foggy day car drive up to a rural area.
not really, but mcternan produced their two records and theres a lot of similarities in production to juturna and olg, not really songwriting wise at all though
My favorite Circa Survive album is Blue Sky Noise because of both the lyrics and the atmosphere to that record. Also my favorite Anthony Green vocal performance. I'm not really good at pinpointing the details to why I like something, but it is one of my favorite albums ever at this point.
i have never listened to them but ive heard a few people mention them on AP like you and Jason. I'm guessing I need to check them out.
