Really? I've always found them to be two very different records that highlight the two sides of the band. Descensus is the more aggressive side of Circa while The Amulet is the more strange and slow burn side of them.
The Amulet was their most refreshing, refined, and interesting output in years imo. But that said I am 100% down for a wild curveball
Tbh, at this point in time, Descensus is the one album of theirs I can’t say I love (although some of its tracks are pretty incredible)
I still think The Amulet is fantastic and their best since BSN. Also think that album, sonically, is the best work that Yip has done with them yet. It sounds far better than Descensus.
The Amulet was a big return to form for me after not really liking VW or D so I was just happy to love a Circa album again.
I fucking love the amulet when I listen to it but literally nothing about it sticks with me it's really weird
Yeah, like how they changed things up with Blue Sky Noise. I'm ready for another curveball of an album.
Listening to BSN today and I’m still so in love with it. It’s such a beautiful album. I honestly can’t think of another cd I had longer in my car when that came out. Crazy that it’s almost 10 years old.
Yeah I just watched it last night. Was a little underwhelmed, but I guess that’s because I was anticipating more stuff about the writing and recording process of the album. It was more like a snapshot of their lives at the time, which was still nice to see, but I’m not sure if I’ll rewatch it after I see it again for their screening/Q&A in Doylestown, PA tomorrow night.
the pre pro and studio vids they put out while doing bsn were awesome back in the day. someone should splice all those together.
