I do love The Lottery. As a whole though, the performance sounds uninspired. To me, you can tell the band members weren't in the best place mentally, especially Ant. Glad you love it though.
Violent Waves is fucking sick and I’d probably choose it over Descensus. VW is the record that got me into them, actually. They don’t have a bad album, though.
Been a few years since this thread saw some ranking :) On Letting Go Juturna Blue Sky Noise Violent Waves Descensus Amulet
On Letting Go Amulet Blue Sky Noise Descensus Juturna Violent Waves Feels weird putting Juturna that low, I just really love the ones above it.
My ranking of OLG > Juturna >> Amulet > BSN > Descensus > VW has changed subtly over the past year... Descensus had been my clear bottom choice, but snuck up on me recently upon re-listening a few times. Sovereign Circle is really the one that took forever to click, but I finally get it now. It's still an awkwardly back-heavy record, though. Schema and Desert, truthfully, are usually skips for me. Always Begin is solid but a bit by the numbers. Most everything after that is really good, though.
The Amulet Juturna Violent Waves Blue Sky Noise Descensus On Letting Go VW and BSN are neck and neck, those would change depending on the day
Always Begin is my favorite on Descensus. Nesting Dolls is up there too and I hope to see them play it live again someday, closing with that on the Descensus cycle ruled
Amulet Juturna & On Letting Go Blue Sky Noise Descensus & Violent Waves Amulet is clearly their best imo. Makes me really excited for what comes next.
Schema remains my favorite from that album. I agree they really don't have a bad release, though their later releases for whatever reason didn't capture me as well as the first 4 did.
I just know I really like Juturna, OLG, and Amulet. The other albums have at least a track or two I like.
i like VW more and more as i listen to it, but its still towards the bottom. BSN -> OLG -> Juturna -> Amulet -> VW -> Descensus Descensus did, and still does, absolutely nothing for me
OK FINE On Letting Go Descensus Blue Sky Noise Juturna The Amulet Violent Waves (They're all good though)
OLG Amulet Juturna Descensus VW BSN All this always begin talk. I don’t know why that song doesn’t click with me.
It doesn't with me either. This band is one of a handful though that are complete anomalies in their scenes, and have their discography loved/praised for different parts of it. These guys, Deftones, ETID, DGD, Thrice, and (maybe) Underoath all seem to have eclectic favorites and album ranks that are all over the place.
