I listened to Circa recreationally back in 2005 and 2007 when Juturna and On Letting Go were released. Stop The Fucking Car always stood out to me. I didn't know much about Anthony Green as an artist. I was listening to Saosin on my desktop computer not long before those albums. I was probably still on AOL or IRC at the time. I completely fell off around Blue Sky Noise. I was with my ex girlfriend in 2012. I was living with her at a miserable time in my life and I saw they were putting out Violent Waves. Two of my friends were insisting that I give them another go. They were talking about pre-violent waves Circa Survive. I really fell into Circa Survive during Violent Waves. They broke off the major label and turned into what they are today. The album is pretty gross front to back, definitely a step forward from Blue Sky Noise. My stand outs are #1 - Phantasmagoria, My Only Friend, Brother Song into Bird Sounds, The Lottery, Blood From a Stone. Decencus was released and I really fell in love with their music and I saw them live at Union Transfer in Philly for the first time. It was before all the 10 year tours and they played a nice variance of all their records. I watched them play Kicking Your Crosses Down and it was game over. I've since then have been following everything the band does. Very uplifting feelings when I listen to them and they seem to have awoke as positive figures for our "scene" and as parents!!
Tour starts in a month in a half I'm thinking they are going to announce the album and hopefully release a single by 7/14. I would assume the album will come in Sept before a headline show. Lots of assumptions and hope
Wish Resign is my favorite song. It's so anthemic and the melodies fucking soar. It's probably the best song I've ever heard live too.
Im so glad that I chose Juturna for my one and only tattoo. It still means just as much, if not more, this many years later.
Triple post just because.. Juturna is so spontaneous and unstructured. I've gotta say I really miss that about this band.
This doesn't make any sense. Almost all of Juturna and OLG are verse chorus bridge structures. They resonated with me so much personally because it was like someone made amazing post rock songs and put them into meaningful structures. And I feel like BSN can be just as proggy or even more maybe in songs like Desert Alone and Longest Mile.
I mean structure wise sure but you can't deny the prog tilt of the instrumentation on those albums more so than what followed
Of course. It just doesn't by and large feel correct to call it aimless because there's actually a lot of structure to the songwriting and progression. The guitar parts are off kilter as fuck though.
yeah true i wouldnt say its aimless either but i can see why someone would think BSN and on is more straightforward and why they'd like that style
I saw Circa play a secret show in Philly back in 2015 inside a 150-cap venue and that may have been the best time I had ever seen them.
Circa Survive at the Loft in Lansing before Violent Waves came out is still one of my favorite shows.
