I remember seeing them open for Coheed, and they had a bunch of mirrors surrounding the stage, along with a crazy light show, it was so sweet. They always have such an awesome setup. They played a smaller venue a few years back here in Michigan, at the Loft, and it was the first time I've ever seen them with barely any stage setup. It was between BSN and VW, it was still probably the best time I've ever seen them.
I dunno what the hell I was thinking for the first 4-5 years I was listening to Juturna for, but when that song truly clicked with me in 2014 it knocked me on my ass
Great track. I still think Wish Resign is mad underappreciated. It was back then and is definitely now. I think it should be a set staple. And the "whoa" chorus in the post chorus is amazing live when the crowd fills that part in. Everyone goes nuts.
Haha same actually. Not sure it was 2014 but when it clicked it hit hard. For the first x number of years I was too focused on the hits, but now thieves is the go to.
Anthony Green Discusses Growing Up and 10 Years of Circa Survive's On Letting Go Short write up on the 10 year anniversary. Green mentions how some lyrics way more on him now than they used to. You hear all the time about artists downplaying their old work, and he goes into that too, but it's nice to see it the other way around as well.
Interesting read. I'm probably alone in this, but when I saw this tour I couldn't help but feel like they weren't that into playing this album... sort of just going through the motions. Have to say they were better, or at least more enthusiastic, every other time I've seen them.
His speech before All Your Friends Are Gone made me appreciate that song more than ever before. Never really thought about how hopeless that song is. Stop the Fuckin' Car into We're All Thieves is the best part of Juturna, absolutely. Would be cool if it went In Fear and Faith, StFC, WAT but hey. edit: now that I think about it more, I think the transition from the end of GGB to StFC works really well, just that outro bridge is kinda really annoying.
I think what he was saying was he wrote that song when he was younger (I'm guessing prior to the writing/recording of OLG) when he was I dark place feeling sad and alone, but now he realises he is loved more than ever and has been given amazing opportunities in his life. Obviously paraphrasing. It was a month ago but that overall feeling is what I remember
I realize now that I never quite "got" Circa to the extent that some people did... they weren't one of my all-tims favorites, and there were other bands in these genres I cared about way more. But ever since the OLG show, something clicked for me... and holy shit guys, this band is PERFECT. I haven't been able to stop listening ever since the show.
Pretty much after every show I see, I really "get" the band a lot more than I did right before it. But ever since the OLG show, I feel like those first two records are just infallible.
Really bummed I didn't get the VIP set. Not super interested in the mostly awkward q/a part but some of those re imagined songs sound so cool and would have been incredible to see live.
