I've had a 1-minute version of 'Unravel" that Anthony did solo a very long time ago, pretty awesome, if anyone wants it download here: https://app.box.com/s/mlspkhttzs85zi3b2snx1323ki8gk20t I have no idea what the source is or anything, but I've always liked it
I always thought that was what was supposed to come with the VIP package until my record arrived yesterday and it was just a single LP. Maybe I'll buy the 3xLP idk
Yeah, sounds out of place a bit, but it's still really interesting, and the chorus comes in quite nicely.
These lyrics seem appropriate today: "What I tried to say this couldn't feel more wrong I can't believe its happening or lasting this long If we know each other then why should it be so hard? Why should it be so hard to make it stop? If there are any answers here we haven't searched for Just type in your code and say a prayer How could it be, we were so secure? Cause nothing you've ever planned on Ever turned out the way you planned"
Love the lyrics to that song. Close Your Eyes To See often gets pointed out as a weak point on OLG, but there actually isn't any weak point. The songwriting on that album might as well be perfect
I don't know why people would say Close Your Eyes To See is the weak point on OLG when Carry You Away is definitely worse
If I had to pick a least favorite it'd either be KYCD or Carry Us Away. That being said they're both fantastic songs.
Close Your Eyes. low key one of the very best OLG tracks KYCD is contender for absolute best. I don't even know how they were able to write that
CYETS is probably one of the slight weak points musically. But it shines so much lyrically as to help make up for it. But at the end of the day, if i *had* to pick a least favorite on OLG, it's either CYETS or Greatest Lie - the less musically interesting tracks.
Travel Hymn is weakest to me. But its still great and I absolutely love it especially the verses. Feels weird to say there's a little less going on.
I think they're among the most musically interesting. The grooves in both those songs' verses are so great rhythmically. The first two albums just groove and breathe so organically. I've never heard any other band do something like that. It's like if one of the most innovative post rock bands decided to write structured tracks with extremely sensible songwriting and lots of quirky weirdness. Damn near perfect songwriting to me
Also going to echo how great the grooves to The Greatest Lie and Close Your Eyes To See are. I think they offer great breathing points on the album too. If I had to pick a least favorite it'd be Carry Us Away. After seeing 1000 Witnesses live and Anthony saying "Fuck, why didn't that make the album?" and knowing how Carry Us Away was written with all the members separated from each other I think I would have loved 1000 Witnesses in its place. It's still a really good song though. It's just the only one on the album I don't love.
Yeah I always read Carry Us Away and Travel Hymn were written very last in the studio hastily. Im going to guess the same for 1000 Witnesses since there's no demo. I've always had a soft spot for Carry Us Away and I'm excited to see them finally play it live this tour.
Carry Us Away has always been my least favorite, Close Your Eyes has become one of my favorites You're still disappointing themm
"Carry Us Away" is fantastic; what an infectious, euphoric chorus. The only knock I can think of is that it treads similar territory to the first two tracks, while not being quite as prolific or fully developed. My bottom three would be CYOTS, Greatest Lie, and Travel Hymn. Basically, I'm just too big a sucker for the thick layering and swirling melodies on most of the other cuts. The groovy stuff certainly has its place in making OLG a nearly-perfect complete album, though.
Also one of my favorites on the record. Did anyone check out the instagram clip they posted that had the isolated guitar tracks from Your Friends Are Gone in it? I never quite noticed just how beautiful they sounded with the rest of the instruments on top of them. I wish they'd release the stems from this like they did with Juturna.
Some of the best lyrics on the album, especially that bridge Could you link me to this? Would love to hear it
