    obliterate all prior things

The average 2013 setlist was pretty dank.

Also the Shrine live dvd setlist was DANK.

I really don't want them to skimp on the later records. 3-4 songs from each record plus maybe Sleep Well or Buzzhenge would be perfect. Throw in a new song as the encore

you can have different favorites but Juturna has to be the best.

  6. Juturna
    On Letting Go
    Violent Waves
    Blue Sky Noise
    Two Dreams
    The Amulet
    Descensus

Avalon might even be above Juturna for me, though. Adore that record.

Ive grown to like all their stuff. I did get possessive of them and want them to do certain things at certain points of their career.

the thing is is that Juturna on top of everything else wonderful that it is, is imo somehow also their most mature album by a fair bit. I used to just sit in awe wondering how they even made it.

also idk why Amulet seems to be SO underrated (maybe just here)

  9. It's very good but a bit samey. Descensus is also very good, but their least cohesive. Everything else kind of hits a sweet spot for me.

Id put Amulet up there with BSN and Two Dreams as far as their most dynamism of song writing by album, comparatively. On the topic of samey-ness. But I prefer the songs on Amulet too.

Hex, and Flesh & Bone are fresh for them. Tunnel Vision is major minor. Soul is one of their barn burners but more melodic. At Night and Premonition feel completely different for them somehow. At Nights chorus is like the most amazing orchestra of vocal arrangements.

flesh and bone is the best song they’ve ever written. the amulet and indra’s net are also top song contenders. that album is special.

juturna is my favorite, amulet is my least favorite, idrk from there. tbh on letting go is an album ive never been able to go all the way for either but it is great, just feels like a lot of stuff theyd do better on bsn/did better on juturna to me

descensus's stock has risen a lot recently for me. that middle combo is so powerful and it maintains a pretty distinct identity in their discog on the whole

Ill be honest, learning that the lyrics to on letting go were all about the show Lost kinda took that album down a few for me

Did a quick fact check of this and while they watched the show heavily during the album's creation and were influenced by it, only one song is actually about an episode.

But also why would that matter? The songs mean whatever you want them to mean.

Lustration and At Night it gets worse are the best songs they've written since Juturna. I don't get how you can love Juturna but not Amulet. It's literally the perfect late game requel to juturna that everyone was asking for after VW and Descensus.

If I was a betting man I'd put money on them being on the Aftershock Festival in Sacramento. Lineup announcement is on Wednesday.

An inconsequential shift as the continents drift.

yeah I don't hear that much Juturna in Amulet at all tbh, the latter feels like it just doesn't have much of a distinct personality beyond "cool Circa album" whereas the others all have some special sauce

the amulet sounds more like on letting go if anything. but it’s distinctly its own sound. cannot actually comprehend any fans of this band not liking the amulet. it’s the perfect distillation of their sound, some of their best songwriting, and by far the best lyrics of anthony’s career and it isn’t particularly close

well I wouldn't say I dislike it, it's just at the bottom of an excellent discog. lyrically I think Juturna is very clearly his best, the dreamy poetic style of that album is amazing

The Amulet, while still being very distinct, is quite a nice fusion of the first two albums to me. It has OLG's rich, colourful melodies, and Juturna's density, subtlety, and a bit of its weirdness. Doesn't do either as well, to be sure, but it's closest we got to them.

    Also Anthony's falsetto is exquisite.

An easy, and extremely close #3 behind Juturna/OLG.

some of Amulet is more similar to Juturna than some of you are realizing

On Letting Go was a more formulized application of their dual spacey guitar melodies. but Amulet brings back more varied song structures and jazz influences of Juturna.

The problem is that the amulet doesn't have the strong melodies and vibrance or energy

I think most agree Amulet largely isnt as excellent as Juturna

for me they had issues with melody for years, and Amulet was a much stronger showing on that front and all others frankly
