My Anthony Green album ranking: Blue Sky Noise > Pixie Queen > Violent Waves > On Letting Go > Descensus > Appendage > Beautiful Things > Juturna > Avalon > Along the Shadow > Young Legs > Tiger and the Duke > The Ocean and the Sun > Lover, the Lord Has Left Us > Translating the Name.
TtN can't be last. I think that is objective I'm hoping I love BSN one day. Everyone else seems to. I feel like its missing a guitar
I'm sorry. I've always disliked Translating the Name. haha It's the only Anthony Green release I don't enjoy in any capacity. I kinda know it's an unpopular view though.
"You were in my dreams, half human half machine. You're with someone else." might be my favorite lyric
TTN is indispensable. His vocals are so good on that, too. I'll be honest: Circa are one of my favorite bands, and I enjoy Saosin a lot too, but I've still never given Anthony's solo work a real hard listen. I've skimmed a couple records and couldn't get into it in any immediate fashion. What's the best place to start for someone whose favorite stuff is TTN/Juturna/OLG?
Seconded. Also: "It starts out like a season in reverse" "Infinite silence, rolling right in with the dawn" Has there ever been a better pair of opening lines for the first two tracks on a record?
my favorite songs Wish Resign The Glorious Nosebleed House of Leaves Oh Hello In the Morning and Amazing Mandala Semi Constructive Criticism Kicking Your Crosses Down the first 3 are especially my shit
I love this because it's all Juturna and OLG, haha. If I did a top 10, it'd probably be like 7 from OLG and 3 from Juturna. The first songs from BSN and beyond would start showing up around 12-15.
Honestly, none of Anthony's solo stuff is really anything like those. I guess I'd say Avalon since it was made around the time of OLG, or Pixie Queen since I think it's his best.
listening to Violent Waves today. Really enjoying it more than usual. Picking up a lot of the little flourishes that I think BSN was missing. Still think Phantasmagoria should have never made the record. ha
I think I'd like Phantasmagoria as an AG solo song. maybe Just so weird on this dark first half of VW
That whole section from "Staircase" through "Phantasmagoria" has kind of a bittersweet mood going on that feels like it works in the context of the record. The ending of Phantas slows down and gets a little ominous, so I think it segues well into the despair of the next track. I agree it's not an exceptionally strong song, though, especially lyrically. VW as a whole I find to be very consistently good but not great; there's not a single song on there I get super excited about.
the more i listen to descensus the more it means to me. it took going through the shit anthony went through for me to really realize what he was saying on these songs. although i think pixie queen is an even better encapsulation, perhaps because its far more straightforward, of his journey to sobriety. in terms of emotional impact the two combined mean as much to me as on letting go does.
I never wanted to take from you The very thing that you wanted me to help save I know it wasn't true (they'll know exactly what I want) Then I'm just making it way too fucked up for myself There is a face you always make (please just tell me) Whenever you don't believe (I need to know) When I don't know what I want from you (I know you'll never have to choose) And I can't tell if I lost anything that I need
