Been listening to the more recent Circa albums cause I kind of fell off after Violent Waves. I really dig Two Dreams more than I was expecting.
Young Legs has my favorite AG solo track (Conversation Piece).. Overall the album is not his best but it has some gems. Also, "I'll Miss You" is another favorite from that one.
Wow, you're so right about the Good Old War reference. Never even crossed my mind. I like it all, but I personally think Boom. Done. Was his solo masterpiece. Wish we could still stream the solo version of 2022. And Two Dreams gets some hate, but it's the Circa album I come back to the most still.
My spicy take would be that Two Dreams > The Amulet by a comfortable margin. I kinda see their post-BSN output as gradually dwindling in creative inspiration until they made the radical electronic shift at the end. Anthony's parts in particular are just so much more interesting and earwormy than they'd been for a hot minute.
Not even a "reference" when it really essentially IS a Good Old War record with Anthony singing haha ;d well, and agreed with 2022, wish it could return in the future, Boom. Done is perfect nonetheless, but the runtime is lacking without that one more track
My hot take is BSN is their least interesting album but still fun. VW at least tries some cool stuff yet the overall vibe is off. Descencus is a rebound. The Amulet follows suit. Two Dreams is perfection
Not even close. Doubt I ever would've gotten into this band if their discog started with BSN. I still appreciate a lot of the later stuff and am glad those phenomenal gateway records got me in, though.
1. Juturna/OLG 2. The Amulet 3. A Dream About Death 4. Descensus 5. Blue Sky Noise 6. A Dream About Love And that's their entire catalogue, no other releases to consider.
Appendage is cool but "Stare Like You'll Stay" is the only song that would be top 20 worthy for me, "Lazarus" is close. I'd probably put it above Descensus.
Juturna/On Letting Go Blue Sky Noise Two Dreams The Amulet Descensus (nesting dolls is one of my fav songs tho) Violent Waves
Blue Sky Noise Violent Waves Descensus The Amulet On Letting Go Juturna Two Dreams People seem to like this band for very different reasons. I've never much gotten into Juturna or Two Dreams. Tried many times, for Juturna at least.
Part of their charm is that it came at a time people were hella thirsty for Circa, and it almost felt like getting more b-sides/hidden tracks, like House of Leaves. If it was a full album, I can imagine it would be a weaker album, weirdly. I CANT EXPLAIN AND I KNOW IT DOESNT MAKE SENSE
